Stripes

I went to the way back machine and looked at some shawl patterns that I love. This is Laura Aylor’s Derecho. The pattern came out 10 years ago and it is still stunning!

A derecho is a widespread, long-lived wind storm that is associated with a band of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms. One of these storms hit here in the eastern United States while I was working on my second knit of this pattern.

A triangular shawl knit modularly in two directions to produce a pattern of interconnected stripes. Two circular needles are used to knit on one side at a time while keeping the other side’s stitches live.

The shawl is very easy to knit. Laura’s instructions are very good. If you can knit and pick up stitches you are good to go.

You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

Laura knit her shawl in tosh merino light but any fingering weight yarn will work. There are 3 colours and you want a contrast so the stripes show up.
We knit the shawl twice. The yarns we used have been discontinued but you have many options.
I quickly pulled a few combinations before I left the store. These are Tosh Merino Light.
Saffron, Oak and Harvest
Iris, Pop Rocks and Grasshopper
Dr Zhivago, Fragrant and Scout
Whiskey Barrel, Dr Zhivago and Whiskers
Medieval, Night Bloom and Star Scatter Solid

Boscoe had a lot of energy this morning so Beth took them to the dog park.
Jackson stays pretty close to Beth so it was easy to get pictures.

Boscoe loves to run. They were filthy so they went to dad’s for a bath. Now they both smell nice.

I was about to hit publish and something clicked in my head. There will be brand new colours of Le Petit Lambswool coming sometime this month. As soon as Biches & Buches has these in stock we will be ordering them. Derecho would look great in Le Petit Lambswool.
Now I will say goodnight!

The shawl is lovely. I like it best in muted tones. The interlaced stripes draw so much interest no matter how it is worn/wrapped.
