Beth has been away this week so it’s been me and the boys. Now it’s my turn for some time by myself to recharge for fall. My clothes are ready to go. It’s the knitting that is stumping me. 

Sky Song MKAL

Lisa Ross’ next MKAL is starting at the beginning of September.

The atmosphere holds so many mysteries, that I couldn’t help but use them as inspiration for my newest MKAL wrap design! Not only that, but each section is tied to songs and song lyrics inspired by the skies above, making this a symphony of stitches! Choose and organize your colors, then join the discussion in my Paper Daisy Creations group. Get ready to cast on and remember… the sky’s the limit!

All techniques with charts will also include written instructions. I’ve created tutorial videos to guide you through any new techniques. There will NOT be any stranded colorwork, intarsia, or brioche. The best part of a KAL… there will be lots of helpful knitters to keep your head out of the clouds!

Antipodes

I’m going to show you Lynn’s sweater first because she has knit much further than I have.

Lynn is using Kathmandu Fingering (01 Slate Grey) with Dyed in the Wool (The Family Jewels). She has finished the back portion to the point where Andrea says to stop. Now she has one front finished and has picked up the stitches for the second front. 

Here is mine. The stitches are picked up. It took some time last night - I was tired and shouldn’t have started but they are picked up and I’ve knit a few rows. There were some bad words said - my dad kept saying “what is going on over there?” 

I’m also using Kathmandu Fingering (21 Rapini) with Dyed in the Wool (Wild Horses). Now that the stitches are picked up I can get going!!!

This was my set up last night. It was easier to sit at the kitchen counter and I could lay the shoulder piece out to pick up.

Lynn was with me today and unpacked a huge order of Addi needles. The website has been updated. We also received Crazy Zauberball, Zauberball Starke 6 and Edition 3. The website has been updated for these as well.

Procrastinating

I need to get out my Antipodes and pick up the stitches. I did it halfway and was off and need to start again. I’ve been putting it off but tomorrow is the day. I’m tired when I get home from the store and don’t want to mess it up again.

Grevillia (pattern purchased on Ravelry) came out of the pile and it’s almost finished. One colour to go. I’m using one skein of Emma’s Practically Perfect Sock and one of Emma’s Theme packs. This is my second time making the shawl - I love knitting it.

Night Lights is very close to be finished. I need to graft 6 stitches at the end and then I can block. Another project for tomorrow.

Night Lights

I almost made it.

63 rows to go but the rows are getting shorter - I’m decreasing one stitch every 4 rows. 

It’s going to be a short post tonight. I had a crazy day in the store. Thanks to everyone who visited and ordered online. I put together new one of a kind kits for the Inclinations Shawl and Nightshift.

I wanted to keep making more but it was after 5 when I left the store and I was getting tired. Now it’s time to put my feet up and knit.

Shift Cowl in Torzal

I have been slowly working away on the cowl.

This is Andrea Mowry’s The Shift knit with the new Malabrigo Torzal. I’m using Anniversario, Indiecita and Arapey. The yarn is a dream to knit with.

It hasn’t grown as fast as I’ve wanted because I’m trying to finish my Night Lights. Hopefully tonight.

I have a lot of boxes to unpack this afternoon. We received a huge restock from Estelle Designs - Merino Superwash DK is replenished with new colours. Mr. UPS should be here soon with a huge Addi restock. We will also have colours back in stock of Crazy Zauberball, Starke 6 and Edition 3. Later this afternoon Mr. Canpar will be bringing a box from Soak. It’s time to start thinking about freshening up your fall sweaters. 

1. Soak  

Pour a capful of Soak into a gallon of cool water. Make sure there’s enough room for the water to move around and cover the item. Soak it for 15 minutes (longer is okay). 

2. Squeeze

Gently squeeze out the water- there’s no need to rinse. Some colour may bleed into the water, but don’t worry, this won’t harm your garment. (But it’s always a good idea to test for colour-fastness before washing.) 

3. Dry

Roll the item in a dry towel* and squeeze out moisture. Lay flat to dry.

*If your item (like an underwire bra) should not be rolled, just use a towel to press out any extra moisture before lying flat to dry.

This is how I found everyone when I got home from work last night. They are keeping dad company while he had a nap.

Box Chicken

Today’s newest kit on the website is Andrea Mowry’s Weekender sweater knit in Spincycle Trine. Trine is discontinued and the kits are on sale for a great price.

I ‘borrowed’ a few pictures from Spincycle to show the Weekender knit in Trine.

This drop shoulder sweater is my most favorite addition to my handmade wardrobe! When Brooklyn Tweed came out with their line of marls for Shelter, I knew I needed a marled sweater. I combined my favorite attributes - texture, faux seams, drop shoulder, and some positive ease to create this versatile, flattering sweater! No matter your body type, it is perfect for wearing to the office or out on your weekend hike in the woods. I’ve already knit a second version, leaving off the sleeves so I can wear it in warmer weather or layered over a long sleeve tee!

Most knitters have played yarn chicken at some time during their knitting career. Are you going to have enough yarn to finish your project?

For the past month I’ve been playing box chicken. Would I have the right size box to ship out orders? It came to a head on Monday and I finally had to order boxes. Whitebird delivered a full skid - I forgot to take a picture and I’ve already unloaded half the boxes into the shed. Now I have the correct size to ship.

I was nicely lying in bed last night when Beth started screaming for me. She came up to bed and her glass shower had shattered sometime between 6:30 and bedtime. I grabbed Fred and dragged him to my room and Beth slept in the guest room. She came home from work this morning to clean it up. I read online that a temperature change can cause this. Our air conditioner wasn’t working upstairs since Sunday so it was hot up there. It was fixed yesterday and I guess it got cool quickly and the glass didn’t like it. 

Now a bit of knitting. I’ll share pictures of my shift tomorrow when I get a bit more finished. Torzal is beautiful to knit with.
