Sailoress Top

It’s always a good day when Joji Locatelli has a new pattern.

This is the Sailoress Top (pattern purchased on Ravelry).

There’s a quiet that settles just before the whirlwind. It feels like a soft breath, a pause, the hush of a heart gathering strength. I was in that moment when Sailoress was born. 

A sleeveless summer top made for warm skies and salt-kissed breezes, it carries the lightness of stillness, the ease of open water. Simple, elegant and full of quiet grace, it’s what you reach for when everything is about to change, when the world asks you to step aboard, loosen the lines, and sail.

Mode at Rowan Cotton DK would be a great choice for this top. Again, please swatch - I think you will need a 4mm needle to get the required tension. 

You can also double up a light fingering weight summer yarn to achieve the recommended gauge, or use a woolen yarn to make a great vest for the colder weather.

Mr. Canada Post brought in a big box of Opal this morning. All three collections are available online and in the store.

I moved around more garments. 

Kits are moving too. While I’m moving the kits I’m making up more colourways.

There are new displays as well.

Lynn is coming in tomorrow. She has lots of yarn and needles to put away. I’m going to start printing price signs and garment labels to make shopping easier.

The new Opal sock yarns are on the shelf and they are finally on the website.

Over the next week I’m going to share with you some pattern suggestions for yarns that are going on sale. This might help you to make a shopping list before you come.

Primrose Roan

Custom spun, at a local family owned fiber mill near Primrose Yarns, and dyed in house in Primrose’s studio, ROAN DK is an unprecedented blend of American Superwash Merino (White) and Domestic Non Superwash Merino (Brown/Black).  The precise percentage of the fiber blend creates a yarn with the best qualities and traits of both fiber types, and none of the worst. It will not grow overtime once blocked, it is suitable for next to skin wear, while still offering the grip for colorwork and steeking, it is a plump 3 ply that is excellent for cable knitting, it takes color like a dream, and it is a non pilling yarn with the proper care.  

Custom blended and spun in York, PA.

60% American Superwash Merino

40% Domestic Non Superwash merino

210m/230 yards on a 100gram skein

3ply DK (but knits close to a worsted weight)

The colours are amazing! I have knit with Roan and love the yarn. I just wound a skein to knit up another store sample for Saturday.

Pressed Flowers

Andrea Mowry’s Frame Your Face Cowl (pattern purchased on Ravelry) would be a great project for Roan. You will need 2 skeins of Roan and I’d put 2 skeins of Dream State with it.

Andrea’s Douglas Cardi (pattern purchased on Ravelry) is another great option for Roan. If you are making sizes 2-8 I think you will need 2 skeins of each colour (there are 5 in the cardigan). I quickly did the math but you should check your size to confirm the numbers.

Now that my skeins are wound I need to cast on.

Alpine Bloom

I’ve finished my Alpine Bloom just in time!! This was such a fun colour work design - and there were so many great options to choose for yarn. I used Emma’s Yarn Practically Perfect Sock in Cally Girl and Spincycle Dyed in the Wool in Nostalgia. I added a little length to the torso and love the finished fit.

Cable Trellis Socks

Stephen West has a new sock pattern which you can purchase on Ravelry. This is part of his Westknits Year of Socks 2023.

Schoppel Wolle Zauberball Crazy is a great self-striping marled yarn. One ball of this yarn would work great for the contrast color. I recommend using a solid or semi-solid yarn for the main color to make the texture and traveling cables pop. Experiment with different yarn combinations and have fun!

My Bear Paw Socks haven’t grown because I am mad at them and myself. They are in a time out. I started knitting during football and didn’t pay attention to what I was doing. I didn’t increase enough stitches after the toe shaping. Then I didn’t count my stitches until I was at the heel. I had to do some adjusting for the heel and then I increased some stitches in the ribbing up the leg. I will finish them (doing the same numbers on the second sock) and give them to Beth if they fit her. I did make notes of my mistake so that I can make them again on the second sock. 👿. Then I will make a pair for myself. A total rookie mistake that I shouldn’t make but now I’ve learned my lesson to pay attention!

Lynda knit this Fae Wing Shawl in May.

We have a new store sample. Lynda knit the Fae Wing Shawl (the pattern is free on Ravelry). We used one ball of Noro Akari - colour 19 on 4.5mm needles.

Alex finished our second shawl in June.

We have another Fae Wing Shawl. The pattern is free on Ravelry. Alex has been in a knitting funk so I asked her to knit this shawl for us. One ball of Noro Akari on big needles - I think we might have her back on track. We used colour 20 for this shawl.

This is a great pattern if you are new to lace knitting. You can follow the written out rows or you can try working from a chart.

Dad and Lucy’s drive is going well. There was a delay at the border this morning so it is taking a bit longer than normal. Usually dad gets to the border and there might be one or two cars ahead of him. This morning it took over half an hour. They should be at the house before 8pm.

Tonight it is going to be a quiet night of knitting. I need to get into the store early tomorrow to put away knitting needles from recent orders. I have them all over the place and it is time to get them in order.
