Match & Move

It's finished and ready for me to wear on the plane in the morning. Alex did a great job blocking it and sewing in all my ends.

Pattern: Match & Move (purchased on Ravelry)
Yarn: Adelaide from Primrose

I used 2 skeins of 2 skeins of Witching Hour, and one skein each of Thrash and Forbidden Forest. I added an extra pattern repeat to make it bigger - and it's huge!

Now I need to finish packing. Then I need to get two rows knit on Kimba. Then I can break off the main colour and only have one skein on the plane.

I hope to blog tomorrow night from Vegas but right now I'm planning on going to the hockey game so you might not hear from me until Friday.

No Seams

Diana has a new project. She normally does shawls for me but I really want this sweater hanging in the store. I asked her if she was okay with a sweater. She hesitated because she isn't in love with seaming. No worries.
Body and sleeves are worked in the round from lower edge to underarms, then joined to work the yoke in the round. Round begins on left side of body. On yoke, round begins on left side of body back where body joins sleeve. The garment is shaped at the waist and the body is made longer on the back side than the front side before the yoke is knitted.

Pattern: Oraefi (purchased on Ravelry)
Yarn: Cascade 220 Heathers (4002) for the body and Cascade 220 (8901) for the yoke

The grey and white is striking but you can see that from the pattern. We're going to show you how awesome it will look with some colour.

You can make the sweater in any aran weight yarn. Woolstok. Cascade 220 Superwash Aran. Tosh Vintage. Tosh Merino.

I just cast off Match & Move and I love it. I'll get pictures tomorrow on a mannequin. Now it's bed time and dreaming about working on Kimba.

KW Knitters' Fair

Match & Move is growing. I'm on the second to last colour.

Mark your calendar for the 2018 Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters' Fair. Saturday September 8.
We bring the yarn crawl to you. 2018 marks the 26th Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters' Fair. This annual one-day event is held by knitters for knitters, on the Second Saturday in September. We welcome vendors who offer a wide variety of yarn. Several vendors also offer knitting accessories, spinning fibre, and tools for a variety of fibre arts.
As we approach the day of the Fair, we will announce our Speaker, the Vendor List, and provide a vendor map to help you plan your yarn-tasting route.
Location Note: For the 2018 Fair we'll be back in the Twin Pads area of the Aud. We're excited to have our old space back, and look forward to enjoying the updated space which underwent significant renovations in Autumn 2017.

Lucy came for a visit this afternoon. It has been way too cold for my dad to take her to the dog park. She had fun running through the snow drifts. Roko can walk on top of them but Lucy fell through. She was very tired when we took her back to dad.

Hello 2018

I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Years Eve. I spent some time knitting.
Match & Move is growing. I have three more sections. It's perfect knitting for right now. You don't need to count stitches. You don't need to read a pattern.
College football is on the TV right now. Dad and Beth have a small wager so there are many phone calls going back and forth. Sometimes Beth won't answer the phone so I have to which is cutting into the knitting time. We're in OT so I need to go and pay attention. And get back to my knitting. I want to take this shawl to Vegas with me.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

I hope you are having a great time with family and friends. We've had a crazy few days here so there hasn't been a lot of knitting.

Match & Move so far.
I like how the colours are working out.

We will be drawing for the Ambah O'Brien Ravelry codes tomorrow.

Don't forget about Boxing Week in the store and online.

Snow :(

I took my knitting outside thinking that I could get a picture in the natural light. It was very dark light. And the snow has started. My knitting doesn't have white spots.
Our guests just left so it's going to be a short post. I'm exhausted and it's time for bed. We had a great dinner. Lucy came too and I totally forgot to get a picture. I'll get one in the next few days before she heads to Myrtle Beach. Mom and dad are going back for a few months. Why stay here in the snow?

I found a few pictures from Vegas that I didn't share. These are from the arena. There is a balcony where they set up bars and games like corn hole and super size jenga.
This is The Park. It is between the Monte Carlo, the arena and New York, New York. For Christmas they set up a huge Christmas tree, food trucks and a skating rink. The area is hopping before a hockey game.

There was a reason for the trip to Vegas. We went for my birthday. When I put my players card into a slot machine, this is what came across the screen to me.

I'm going to knit a few rows and then bed. I need to let my dinner settle a bit. Why do you always eat too much at a dinner party?

All My Stitches

Match & Move is growing. I'm almost at the end of my increases. That marks being 1/3 of the way finished. I will have 5 wedges during the increases and then 5 wedges after.

Here are a few more of the new colours coming from Hedgehog so that you can start making your wish list.
Goblin is all moody grays with a hint of green and speckles.
Parklife is a complex green with pinks, yellows and so much more.
Piggy Bank is a bright and cheerful multi, both variegated and speckled.
Did you know that Beata of Hedgehog Fibres has a new pattern called All My Stitches?
A slightly different take on the ombré shawl, All My Stitches is a shallow triangular shawl with an integrated i-cord border. You will be using two strands of fingering weight held together throughout the project.
There is no striping of the yarns involved, only soothing meditative rows of endless garter stitch! I used four colours, but you can use as many as you’d like, even incorporating odds and ends from your stash.
This shawl is going to be the perfect project to play with the new colours.

I have tracked the parcel and our needles will be should be here late Monday afternoon.

The special edition sets will be available in Umber and Indigo.

Now it's knitting time. The Great American Baking Show has been taped and Beth is already watching.

Leather Closure

Wannietta knit a cardigan for Beth a long time ago. It was too small for Beth but now it fits. We were supposed to have a zipper sewn into it but that didn't happen. Beth wants to wear the cardigan tomorrow so we added The Latch Leather Closure from JUL. There are four up the front and it looks great. My pictures of the full cardigan don't look great so I'm going to ask you to take my word for it.

When we finally find the time to take the cardigan in for the zipper, we can unscrew the leather closures and use them for something else. Or if I decide that I want them for something else they are easy to remove.

Happy Thanksgiving to our friends south of the border. I hope you are enjoying your really long weekend. I enjoyed watching football this afternoon. And a bit of knitting. I've been working on Match & Move. The pattern is super, super easy. It is the same row over and over again until you reach a certain number of stitches. Then you repeat the same two rows until the shawl is finished. Perfect for planes, trains and automobiles. I'm going to work through this colour because I want to see how the fourth colour plays. Then it is going to be put away until our flight next Friday.

I made a few adjustments to the pattern

-I'm knitting on a 3.75mm needle. The pattern says 2.75mm-3mm but I think that the fabric is too tight on that size needle. I also want my shawl to be bigger

-I'm fading in the colours. I worked the first colour (A) until I was 8 rows less that the colour change. Then I did 2 rows of B, 2 rows A, 2 rows B, 2 rows A. Now the repeat will go 2 rows of B, 2 rows A, 2 rows B, 2 rows A, 32 rows of B, 2 rows of C, 2 rows B, 2 rows C, 2 rows B, 32 rows of C...

Now back to it for a few more rows before bed.

Black Friday

Diana stopped in after work with True Colors. I love it. It was way too dark outside for pictures so I took a few in the store.

A newsletter just went out about Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If you don't receive our newsletters, you can sign up at the top of the blog. There will be a few more yarns on sale that aren't on the website. These are in store only. The first is Flurry. I'll reveal more tomorrow.

Flurry Chunky is a wonderfully soft and cosy yarn with a gorgeous fleecy texture. It comes in a range of turbo-dyed colour effect shades, these include soft, powdery colours, as well as stronger, more vibrant ones too. Flurry is the perfect yarn for creating the snuggest of knits for all the family and we have a gorgeous collection of designs with patterns for women, children and babies. Flurry Chunky is machine washable on a wool cycle.

Flurry will be on sale for $5 a ball. That's half price.

5 - 7 balls are needed to make a blanket.

2 - 5 balls are needed for this sweater. Sizing is from newborn to 7 years.

The 2017 Indie Gift-A-Long starts tonight on Ravelry. Here is the link to the discussion thread.
What is the Indie Design Gift-A-Long?

It’s prepping for the holidays as only fiber folks can, with special deals from tons of indie designers!

The Indie Design Gift-A-Long is a 6 week long KAL/CAL of holiday gifts made from patterns designed by a rather extensive list of independent designers. Tons of indie designers will be discounting between 5 - 20 of their patterns 25% for this event. There are eight KAL/CALs to participate in, prizes of all sorts given out, games, and generally a lot of fun!
I cast on Match & Move this evening. The pattern is very mindless - it will be perfect for my trip next week. So mindless that I couldn't stop. I should have been in bed by now.
