LYS Day 2020

Thank you to all who visited yesterday for LYS Day. We had a great day. It was busy at times but there was lots of room for everyone to shop comfortably.

We used every inch of the parking lot.

I missed getting a picture of everyone who helped. Dad, Beth and Lynn were at the store at 7am so that we could set everything up. Cathy, Sarah and Wannietta came to help during the day and with take down.

We were all in agreement that it was much nicer than setting up for a show away from the store. No going a day early. No packing and unpacking vehicles twice. No driving. The one thing that didn’t change is the store is a mess inside. We walked everything in and dropped it. Tomorrow morning I have boxes to ship and then I need to get the website updated. After that I need to place orders. We are low on some colours of Le Petit Lambswool. Luckily their orders come quickly and we should see yarn next week.

There are talks about another event in October. You never know.

There are a lot of pictures today.

Meet Wannietta’s daughter Amanda. I’ve known Amanda for 20 years. She was just a toddler and now she’s all grown up. Wannietta just finished a test knit and brought it to show off yesterday. She wanted pictures and I suggested that Amanda model Wannietta’s shawl. Then I asked Amanda to model our Orianna Wrap.

Kits are back in stock and available on the website.

I spent today knitting and watching football. My Shift is finished! Okay, the knitting is finished. It needs to be blocked and seamed.

This was such a fun knit. And now that I have knit it I understand how the colours work better. I have ideas for making new kits.

It’s a great day when the Big Brown Truck pulls in with yarn from Uschitita.

Steffi did an amazing job with our colours. On Monday I will try and get everything photographed and on the website.

Picking which colourway I want is going to be hard.

My Shift is growing. I really thought it would be finished for tomorrow but that isn’t going to happen. I will put it on a mannequin on the needles. It isn’t the first time that I haven’t finished a sample in time.

People have asked if we will have individual skeins of Dyed in the Wool available tomorrow. We made packages with two skeins of the same colour - enough for the colourwork on Andrea’s new sweater Junction. No, not every colour because we would like to have some sleep tonight.

We’ve been getting emails about coming into the store to shop for LYS Day. The store will not be open tomorrow. 

Now I have one more sign to make and a few rows to knit.

Rowan Felted Tweed

A few weeks ago I showed pictures of the Find Your Fade that Jean knit for her friend. Jean used the leftovers to knit the Geology Shawl. It is beautiful.

We made surprise bags of sock yarn for Saturday. 3 balls of self-patterning or self-striping sock yarn for $30. We labeled the bags so you will have some idea of the colours you are getting. You won’t know your actual colours until you get home. Surprise!

I can finally share some exciting news from Rowan. We have new shades of Felted Tweed coming in October.

There are 12 colours including black. When Felted Tweed first came out we had black but for some reason Rowan discontinued it. I have been asking Rowan for years and finally it’s back.

These colours were designed for Kaffe - he has a new pattern book coming.

We will have the pattern book and the new colours in stock at the beginning of October.

Now to knit a few rows and then I need to make some kit inserts. I’ve gone a bit kit crazy for Saturday.

My Shift

There has been a lot of knitting the last few days on my Shift. One more section of increases and then the decreases start.

Today was the first day in forever that I haven’t gone to the store which left me time to knit and make signs for Saturday.

Joji has a new pattern. This is the Wispy Shawl and you can purchase the pattern on Ravelry or on Joji’s website.

I love one skein shawls… I know they are an easy project to jump on, they allow us to dream big with a small investment (just one skein) and they just make every single yarn of a very special yarn count.  

And while this shawl is not technically a one-skein project, it ALMOST is, and it was born as a one-skein idea to me, so hopefully you will find one special skein to make it!For this shawl you will need 1 skein of laceweight yarn (I used mohair) and a few yards (50y tops) of a coordinating fingering weight yarn (I used leftovers). 

I love designing with negative space. The new popularity of mohair has allowed me to play with light and shadows in my knitting, creating see-through textures and delicate contrasts.  

For Wispy, I used two yarns in a similar shade of dusty pink, but you can use completely different colors, to make the solid striping stand out more.

Don’t forget about LYS Day this Saturday September 12.

We are offering a few appointments from 10am-11am. Please email me and I will confirm your appointment.

We are setting up a ‘Knitters Fair’ style shopping experience in our parking lot. Our knitters have been busy and we have many, many beautiful samples for you to see. We’ve been busy making up kits for these garments. What else will be for sale?
