Lynn’s New Shawl

Lynn finished her Jaunty and brought it in to show off. It looks amazing.

Yarn: 2 balls of Starke 6

Colour: 2543 - we are out of this colour but an order has been placed and I hope to have more next week. Any colour of Starke 6 will make an amazing shawl

Needles: 3.75mm

Lynn made a mess unpacking boxes this morning.

Lots of yarn from Biches & Buches. I need to get it online - my job tomorrow morning. I’ve spent way too much on the website today and my eyes need a rest. We received a yarn that I’m not supposed to talk about until Monday. Since I play by the rules I won’t show it or put it online until then. It will go live at 12:01am on Monday - you’ll see it on the front page of the website.

Lang Cloud arrived today and it is on the website.

Dad and Beth just finished making banana muffins. Now it’s TV/knitting time.

Finished Jaunty

Alex dropped by on Saturday with my blocked Jaunty.

Pattern: Jaunty (pattern purchased on Ravelry)

Yarn: 5 skeins Spincycle Dyed in the Wool

Colour: Poppy

Needles: 3.75mm

I love this pattern. It is mindless but not boring. I will be making it again.

This could be my next Jaunty. It’s a brand new colour coming from Spincycle within the next two weeks.

Yesterday afternoon I finished my Ooey Gooey Cowl. It needs to be blocked and then the ends grafted together.

Then I picked up my Nightshift. I wanted to blog last night but I was trying to get the stitches cast off first. I had about 20 stitches left when it was bed time. I’ll get it finished later today.

This was about 6:30 last night. It didn’t look too bad outside.

This morning I went out to get dad’s newspaper. I had to dig a path to get it.

Mike came from the workshop this morning to get the driveway clean. Sending thoughts to those who got slammed.

Jaunty KAL

I really wanted to blog last night but couldn’t make myself do it. I raced home after work so dad and Beth could go to their Christmas dinner. I sat in my chair and pulled out my knitting. The dogs were sleeping and I kept knitting. I made it into the fourth skein.

WEATHER AND STORE CLOSINGS

While I was away the weather wasn’t great one day and it called for it to get worse during the day. Beth made the call for Lynn to stay home. She drives almost an hour to get to the store. If it’s bad weather out or calling for a storm the store will be closed for the day. I live about 20 minutes away but have to drive back roads to get to Ancaster. Please call before heading to the store on a bad weather day. If we don’t answer the phone then the store is closed. I will try and post on Instagram and on the website if we are closed for the day.

I decided yesterday afternoon that we should do a Knit A Long for Jaunty.

This shawl is a shallow triangle, knit sideways using Half-Fishermen’s Rib

Here are the guidelines. We will send each person who qualifies a 15% off coupon code for a future purchase when the KAL ends.

1. We will cast on January 1, 2026.
2. Yarn to be purchased at the Needle Emporium. Yarn purchased starting December 25, 2025 qualifies. If you order online then we have you in the system. If you purchase in the store, please make sure that we take your email address.
3. The yarn can be anything from fingering weight to worsted weight.
4. Wear your finished Jaunty into the store for pictures. We will post these on the blog.
5. If you live out of town, please have someone take pictures of you (or someone if you don’t do pictures) wearing your shawl for us to post. 
6. The KAL will end on March 31, 2026. This will give everyone a chance to finish.

This is my Jaunty knit in Dyed in the Wool. I used 5 skeins (1000 yards) and it is very large. How much yarn you need will depend on the size you want. Andrea show four shawls in different weights and different sizes. This will give you an idea on how much yarn you need. 

Diana is coming tomorrow to pick up yarn to make a Jaunty for the store. I need to decide on which yarn it will be. I’m torn between Rios (who doesn’t love a shawl in Rios), Starke 6 because of the striping or maybe Rowan’s Fine Tweed Haze. A bit of fluff and a bit of tweed.

A Finished Project

While I was away Alex blocked my third Sophie Scarf (pattern purchased on Ravelry). I used 3 skeins of Spincycle Plump (Neveruary) on 8mm needles. I left it in the store because I’m afraid Beth is going to claim it. 

I made it past the halfway point last night. This skein of Dyed in the Wool has colours that weren’t in the first two skeins. The fun part of knitting with Spincycle.

Now it’s time for a movie and knitting. Working all day is very tiring. I miss my afternoon nap.

I love the size of the shawl. In my world a shawl can’t be too big. You can make the pattern in whatever thickness of yarn you want. Just swatch before you start to make sure you like the needle size you chose. 

Tomorrow Beth and I are heading to One of a Kind. Hopefully the weather is nice for the drive.

Gnoel Gnome

Sara Schira has a new gnome pattern that you can purchase on Ravelry. Meet Gnoel Gnome.

Gnoel runs a scented candle workshop. At this time of year, he loves to combine cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves in his favourite festive candle - Put A Bow On It. He is working on a woodsmoke and nutmeg candle he plans to call Stockings By The Fire.

A handsome, larger gnome, Gnoel is a great gnome for mantlepieces or porch displays. He’s a great first project for stranded colourwork - after all, wonkiness is gnominess!

Fun Fact: the mittens have no gusset - we do a little trick with an i-cord thumb that gets knit on so we can reduce the fussiness of making tiny mittens.

We had a great day at Malabrigo Day yesterday. Thank you to everyone who visited. It was crazy busy all day and I didn’t get any pictures. We had lots of beautiful Malabrigo garments worn in during the day. Knitters had fun trying the Malabrigo yarns on the front table.

Lynn was wearing Joji’s Lightweight Hipster knit in a skein of Malabrigo Sock with her DRK Everyday Cardi. Her Pressed Flower Socks were knit with Malabrigo Ultimate Sock and Crazy Zauberball.

Dad and Beth carved pumpkins yesterday. Beth bought cutters (like cookie cutters) and they worked will.

They’re out on the front porch. Beth bought special lights as well.

I found my knitting scale on Friday night when I was gathering knitting needles. Now I’m back working on Jaunty. The colour is Bitter Pill Dyed in the Wool. Mr. UPS will be bringing a box this week with more bags of this colour.

I was so tired last night that I couldn’t finish my post. There was a short nap after work then dinner and the baseball game. What a disappointing game. I hope it’s better tomorrow night.
