Pulled out an old project

This is Lynn’s Calypso Worsted. She used Biches & Buches Le Lambswool with Dream State.

You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.
I was working on my Happy Camp Sweater yesterday and my ball of ecru ran out. I’m two repeats from finishing the sleeves. 😂 I went downstairs to wind my ball and saw my Calypso Sweater sitting there. It was calling me to take it upstairs and work on it. We were watching a movie that required attention so I knit around and around while watching. Sometimes it’s nice to have knitting that doesn’t require thinking.

Beth is leaving us in the morning for a cruise. I’m in charge this week. Dad and I are going to eat all the foods that Beth doesn’t like while she’s away.

Now a few rows of knitting before bed. I’m tired - thanks to everyone who visited today. Tomorrow I’ll get back to Happy Camp. It should be finished by tomorrow evening. It’ll be just over 3 weeks to knit the sweater - that is a record for me.

Melt

Andrea Mowry has a new shawl pattern called Melt (you can purchase it on Ravelry).

My favorite ingredients for shawl knitting are color and texture! Melt combines garter stitch with playful stripes, two color brioche and even lace to keep you knitting “just one more row” all the way to the bind off. This shawl is knit sideways and the entirety of the shawl is encased in a polished I-cord edge.

This is a note that Andrea has on the pattern

The shawl grows significantly after blocking, going from approximately 52 (68)”/132 (173) cm wingspan (the longest edge) to 71 (86)”/180.5 (218) cm. Please note that how aggressively you block the shawl and the composition of the yarn you use can affect the the final dimensions.

The shawl is knit in DK weight yarn. Tosh DK would be a great option. I think that Tosh Wool + Cotton would make a stunning shawl.

Kathy stopped by today with lots of projects to show off. This is her Trinigan knit with Spincycle Trine and Dream State. The cardigan fits her perfectly. I really need to get mine finished.

While Kathy was shopping Lynn and I took pictures of a few of Kathy’s shawls.
This is Twists & Turns - the Stephen West MKAL from 2022 (pattern purchased on Ravelry)

This is Secret Forest. When the pattern first came out it was a MKAL. No one knew what the finished shawl would look like. The shawl is beautiful.

I want to thank Kathy for sharing. Her work is beautiful.
I moved some stitches of my Calypso Worsted onto a second needle so I could put it on a mannequin. I like how the colours are working together. Now it’s time to get back to it.

Win a Della Q Mesh Tote

I have my latest project in a Della Q Mesh Tote and I really like the bag. Right now I have 10 balls of Le Lambswool and 3 skeins of Dream State in the bag. There is still room for a bit more if I needed it.

One part Tote, one part Rucksack, the Makers Mesh Tote is a larger-sized, fully transparent project bag designed with warmer days of making in mind. Created to be carried in two different ways as a crossbody or shoulder bag, this bag boasts enough interior space to hold 10+ skeins or medium-to-large sized projects. It comes standard with a matching clip-in Scissor Pocket, exclusive canvas Oh Snap, and an adjustable strap.

How can you win the bag?

  1. Leave a comment on this post with your first name and last initial, your hometown and your Ravelry name and/or Instagram name. If we don’t have your name we can’t contact you if you win.
  2. Comments are moderated. They won’t show up until I add them to the post.
  3. One comment per person please
  4. The winner will have their choice of colour from in stock bags - Purple, Red or Olive.
  5. We will contact you right after the draw. The winner’s name will also be in a blog post the day after the draw. The winner will have 2 weeks to claim the prize. If it isn’t claimed in that time we will redraw.
  6. We will ship the bag anywhere in Canada or the US if you win.
On Wednesday March 27th Monday April 1st we will do a random draw (picking one name) to see who wins the bag.

I have been working away on my Calypso Worsted. I’m enjoying the pattern. This is my first time working with Le Lambswool and it is very nice to work with.

Knit A Long Time

Lynn worked with me today and we decided to do a Knit A Long. We are going to knit the new Calypso Worsted pattern from Black Cat Knitting Co (pattern purchased on Ravelry). We have the original Calypso on display in the store and we jumped at the chance to knit a worsted weight version.

We are both knitting with Biches & Buches Le Lambswool and Spincycle Dream State.
I’m using Very Dark Grey and Neveruary
Calypso Worsted is the big sister of the original Calypso, featuring the same colorwork chart but with a longer body, full length sleeves, a folded-over ribbed neckband and corrugated rib cuffs. It uses the magic of color-changing yarns to create an intriguing yoke design using just two colorways!
Lynn is using Light Grey with On The Low
Here are some suggestions for other yarns you can use
  1. Cascade 220
  2. Cascade 220 Heathers
  3. Cascade 220 Superwash Merino
  4. Malabrigo Rios
  5. Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok
  6. Noro Ito
  7. Noro Kureyon
  8. Madelinetosh DK
Here are the guidelines.

  1. Yarn to be purchased at the Needle Emporium. Any purchase from today (Thursday March 7, 2024) qualifies. If you order online then we have you in the system. If you purchase in the store, please make sure that we take your email address.
  2. The yarn can be any worsted weight yarn. Please leave a note with your order that you are joining the KAL.
  3. Wear your finished sweater into the store for pictures. We will post these on the blog.
  4. If you live out of town, please have someone take pictures of you in your sweater for us to post.
  5. If you would like to share pictures while you are knitting I would love to share on the blog.
  6. The KAL will end on September 30th, 2024. We need a picture of your finished sweater by this date.
  7. Once we receive a picture of your finished sweater we will send you a 20% off coupon code for a future purchase.
This combination is Cascade 220 Heathers (colour 8400) and Noro Ito (colour 60). I think this would make a stunning sweater.

We received some Malabrigo Arroyo today. The yarn is sport weight and designers are starting to write more patterns using this thickness. It gives another option.

There lots of boxes today
  • A box of Cascade
  • A box from Lang
  • Two boxes from Rowan
  • There is a box of Lantern Moon and Knitters Pride needles
  • The last box has Crazy Zauberball, Starke 6 and Addi needles
Rowan Summerlite 4ply
The lime, orange and turquoise are three brand new colours of Summerlite DK.

The Addi needles aren’t online yet. We didn’t have a chance to make sure that the shipment was correct.

Now I need to wind some yarn to cast on my sweater.
