What the Fade?!

I finished last night.

Dad was very concerned about all the ends hanging. I told him not to worry - Alex will look after them.

When I was finished I went back to my Temperature Blanket. That is going to be my knitting tonight while we watch the Jays.

I’m on dog duty tomorrow so I’ll get a skein of yarn wound and get back to Night Lights.

New pattern coming tomorrow

I had to wait for Mr. UPS this afternoon (he was picking up a lot of boxes) and I finally got my shawl stretched out.

Pretty new yarn from Hedgehog. I didn’t have time to count these but will try to do it tomorrow.

Six colours of Dyed in the Wool have been marked down. These are available on the website and in the store.

Andrea Mowry showed a picture of her finished Rhinebeck sweater on Instagram today. You can see it here. I have combinations ready to make up kits tomorrow. I don’t know the yardages yet but I’ll be up early so as soon as the pattern is up on Ravelry I will start adding to the website.

Dad and I are waiting for Beth to get home with dinner. We did baking for tomorrow. 4 dozen cookies with another 2 dozen in the oven. A dozen muffins and a batch of brownies. Dad vacuumed while goodies were in the oven.

Almost finished fading

Eight rows of fading followed by eight rows of the last colour. Then the I cord and I’m finished. I looked for a needle to stretch the shawl out but there wasn’t one the right size at my knitting chair and I didn’t want to go downstairs. We’re all a bit sore - we washed Jackson outside and he wiggles a lot. It was a fight to get him wet, get the shampoo on him and then wash the shampoo out.

Now we’re starting our baking. Dad has a big pour on Tuesday in Port Dover.

Take a look at Spincycle’s Instagram account. There is another sneak peek at the new pattern coming out on Tuesday.

I’ll be in the store tomorrow packing boxes and waiting for Mr. UPS to deliver boxes. We might have another box coming from Hedgehog. It will depend on how fast it moves through the system. There could be a box full of Addi needles.

Happy Sunday and have a good evening!

Donegal Twists

This afternoon I ordered a brand new yarn for fall.

Donegal Twists is a subtle twist of two beautiful yarns, giving the perfect balance of strength, colour and handle. It blends together 28% Worsted Spun Luxury British Wool and 72% Woollen Spun Soft Donegal Merino. This traditional yarn is designed by the Baa Ram Ewe team and is made in Kilcar, Ireland at Donegal Yarns woollen mill.

100% of our wool comes from non-mulesed sheep.

Yarn weight: DK

Approximate meterage: 270m/295yds per 100g

Hank size: 100g

Tension/gauge swatch: 28 rows, 21 sts to 10cm/4” (4mm needle)

Suggested needle size: 4mm

Composition: 28% Worsted Spun Luxury British Wool, 72% Woollen Spun Soft Donegal Merino Hand wash and dry flat.

I saw a sweater knit in this yarn when I was at the trade show in Chicago and fell in love. Baa Ram Ewe is knitting the yarn to a DK tension. I think that you could knit it on a larger needle (4.5mm or 5mm) and knit it to a worsted/aran tension. I have a skein and need to try some swatches before the yarn arrives.
Here are a few of the colours that will be coming.

Here is a video from Baa Ram Ewe showing their yarns being made.
The family is at the cottage and I’m having a quiet evening. I brought out What the Fade?!
Six more rows and then I’m fading into the fifth colour.

Bold

Deidre picked up yarn this morning to start on Night Lights. I went bold for the store sample.

Estelle Superwash Merino - 325

Edition 3 - 2298

I sent extra yarn so Deidre can make it a bit bigger. The great thing about the shawl is you can make it as large or as small as you wish. When you get halfway through your yarn you start the decreases.

Le Lambswool Soft Gold
Dream State Something Wicked

This could be the colours I use for my shawl.

In case you missed last night’s post - here is Night Lights. Photo © Andrea Mowry. Pattern purchased on Ravelry.

Kits are available online and in the store for the shawl.

Then I made some kits using Noro Ito and Cascade 220 Superwash Merino. These are available online and in the store.

I’m fading away.

Tonight is going to be an early night. Dad wants to be on the road to Peterborough at 5am. It’s pour day. We have cookies, muffins, brownies and banana bread for the guys. They’ll walk off the job if dad shows up empty handed. Thankfully it will be much cooler tomorrow for them.

Revisiting What the Fade?!

I pulled out my What the Fade?! today. When I put it away and started working on other projects I was doing the fading section. That is finished and I’m into the second brioche pattern repeat.

I’m using Hedgehog Skinny Singles for my shawl like Andrea used for hers. If you want to have fun with Brioche this is a great pattern. Andrea explains everything well and there are tutorials. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

The powder room has been painted and I started putting it back together. It was one of my chores today along with laundry, dishes and started to clear out the great room which will be painted this week.
Another chore was making muffins. I leave treats for the painters every day.

Now it’s bedtime because the painters will be here by 7:30.

What the Fade?!

Mr. UPS came just as I was closing Friday evening with our boxes of Hedgehog. The colours are amazing!!! I have almost everything online now. We’re going to have fun trying to get it all put away this week.

I chose my colours for What the Fade ?!

I will be starting with the green and working to the fuchsia and then back to green.

The pattern is printed and I have my needles. My ball winder is going to be one of the last thing that gets packed.
I started knitting last night and forgot to finish my post.

I knit well into the night and then more this morning and afternoon. The colours are off. Yesterday’s pictures are very close - this photo is too lime. I’m rushing to finish my post before dinner. Then more knitting.

The first sequence is finished and now I’m fading in the next set of colours. I have each ball in it’s own ziploc bag so I can keep them straight. So far I am enjoying the shawl.

Have a good evening. I hope you are playing with yarn like I will be.

21 Colour

We have two new kits from Blue Sky Fibers - Woolstok is used for both kits. The mittens are knit with 20 mini skeins and a full skein of grey. All 21 colours of Woolstok are used. Lynn has knit a pair for the store and will be getting them to us in time for the Knitters' Fair.
The mittens will look great with the 21 Color Slouch.
The other kit is a hat made with a full skein of Woolstok and two mini skeins. The kit includes all three hat patterns.

It's two weeks until the Fair. There is merino light laid out all over the store to make kits for Building Blocks.
I'm in love with the pink version that I put together. There will be neutral kits (similar to my shawl) and then some fun combinations.

I brought home a bag with two possible colourways for What the Fade?! I had to make one with mauve but I really think it will be the green version. Not my colours but they are calling my name. Screaming actually.

While I was making a mess for the Fair, I starting packing for Camp. These boxes are goodie bag and door prize donations that we've received so far. My suppliers have been very generous!

LITLG

Life in the Long Grass is on the way to us. It's been released from Canada Customs and we should see it on Tuesday or Wednesday. Why does Monday have to be a holiday? I can't wait to see the yarn.

There are 210 skeins of 75/25 (superwash merino and nylon sock yarn) and 104 skeins of merino singles.

Chlorophyll (sock only)
Crush

I hope to get the pictures on the website over the weekend so I can add stock when it arrives. Small problem. My madelinetosh is in Milton. I really need it :) so dad and I are picking it up on Monday morning. I could be playing in the store on Monday.

I should have arranged the pictures better. There will be great combinations for What The Fade?! I'll lay some skeins out when the yarn arrives.

I just purchased the pattern. Andrea posted an introductory video with some fade ideas and she will be posting more videos when the KAL starts.

Did I mention that I can't wait???

For the yarn and the KAL to start :)
