Dainty Ruffles

Later this week we will be receiving Frill Seeker Metal-Frill Seeker with a touch of metallic thread.  It gets better.  The price will be the same as the original Frill Seeker.

While I was in Toronto yesterday at the Open Houses I saw Frill Seeker Metal Light.  Many bags came home with me.

The yarn is not as wide as Frill Seeker so I am calling it dainty ruffles.  Baby ruffles would also work.

I started a scarf yesterday.  8 stitches on 4.5mm needles.  I think that one ball will make a generous scarf.  It was hard to watch hockey, baseball and Survivor at the same time let alone try to do it while knitting.  The scarf didn't progress as fast as I had hoped.

It isn't as wide as the original Frill Seeker scarf but for summer a narrower scarf is nice.

The yarn is super soft.  I was afraid that the metallic might make it scratchy but you don't feel it at all.

The yarn is $7.99 a ball.  Think of the great presents you can start making.

Finally the person I wanted to win on Survivor actually won.  What kind of arguments were Phillip and Natalie making?  They handed the money to Rob.  Both admitted that without Rob they wouldn't have been in the final three.  It amazes me the questions some people ask and the comments they make at the final tribal council.  Julie went off on Natalie. Talk about sour grapes.  She sure would have felt differently about the game if she was in the final.  If you want to make friends and have everyone play a totally honest game then Survivor is not for you.

I am supposed to be writing a newsletter but hit a block.  It's time to get back to it.

Scarf Yarn Update

Mr. CanPar braved the cold/wet/foggy weather to bring us a box of Ondas and Triana.  Unfortunately it was a small box and many colours are still backordered.

In Ondas we received colour 74-fushica. This is the bright colour that is shown on the pattern that we give out with the yarn.

I was going through the pictures on my computer looking for my finished Triana scarf and found one of the Ondas scarf that I knit for my chiropractor. Here is a picture of colour 71 knit up.

Long Message today-lots of pictures too!!

Here are a couple of Lattice Bags from my class. Joy's is felted and Stephanie still needs to felt. Karen wasn't at class on Tuesday night-she used hot pink and orange. My bag is still drying-double stranding the yarn and working cables makes a very thick bag. Bag handles arrived from the US yesterday but the ones that I wanted for my bag weren't in the shipment.


Here is the new Ruffles scarf finished. I used 5 stitches (the last one was 4) so the scarf is much shorter. I used 2 balls for both to show the difference in length but if I was going to knit for myself I would use 3 balls and get a nice long scarf

I have finished the second front of Kilcar. I am working on the collar (102 stitches and 20 rows) and might start sewing on the weekend. I used the 3 needle bind off for the shoulders-makes it so much easier.

I have been busy unpacking more boxes.

From Nashua we received some of their new Ecologie Cotton. They don't have shade cards up yet but here is their description of the yarn. Another shipment of Jordana Paige bags arrived. We now have the Messenger Bag in Camel/Brown.











More colours of the Rowan Bamboo arrived. I am having a hard time deciding between the orchid (mauve/pink) and lolly (mint green) for myself. This yarn will knit to an Aran tension. Not everyone likes the patterns that Rowan did so you can use anything Aran-I am looking at a Debbie Bliss design called Keira from her new Pure Cotton magazine. Once Kilcar is done I get to start a new project!!!

New colours of Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk arrived (129, 130, 131, 120). I am not sure why I didn't order them in the beginning-they are great. There is also a new pattern from them for a hoodie with crocheted trim.

Ruffles Revisited

I decided to knit another Ruffles scarf in one of the new multicolours. This is the first ball knit up. By the time I closed the store this afternoon I was almost done ball two.

New Yarn and Knitting Progress

Two posts in one day. Are you happy now Mom?

I unpacked boxes and put away yarn this morning. In the box were new colours of On Line Solo-the yarn that I used for the Ruffles Scarf. I mentioned a new yarn from Elsebeth Lavold in this morning's post-guess what-it wasn't in the box. Maybe it will arrive next week.

This afternoon I took some time to work on the Asymmetrical Jacket. I have eight rows left until I can cast off the first half. Unfortunately there are close to 400 stitches on the needle so one row takes forever.

I am missing knitting guild tonight. Because of the snow a couple of weeks ago, the first class of my Lattice Bag was cancelled so I am teaching tonight to get them caught back up.

Ruffles scarf is done

I finished the scarf this afternoon. Everyone was going crazy for it. If I was to show you a ball of the yarn you wouldn't look twice at it but when knit and on a person it looks amazing.

When you lay the yarn open it looks like a knit piece of fabric with a right side and wrong side. This is important when knitting-you have the right side facing which makes the ruffles lie like they do.

Here is a picture of me knitting the scarf. It shows how you stab through the yarn and don't wrap the yarn around your needle.

I started another Loopa scarf on the smaller frame. This shows how you are wrapping the yarn around and catching with a thin yarn. Once you reach the top you stitch through the catching yarn and this holds the loops into place. I am using Trendsetter Checkmate. Checkmate alternates between a bright nylon checkerboard that changes into a flat matte’ Nylon ribbon. When the yarn is dyed, the flat ribbon bulks up and the open checkerboard opens out creating a subtle thick and thin against a bright and matte yarn

Korey has gotten creative with the website. In the news section he is now showing pictures with the information on new kits and yarn. He even has it linked so you can click on the news section and it will take you to the appropriate page. This will make it much easier for you to see what is new.

The new Opal sock yarn arrived this afternoon. The colours are wild. If you are looking to make some colourful socks, the new collection is for you.
