Our single-ply merino is grown on small farms in the Rockies and milled in North Carolina. The yarn is hand-dyed at our studio in North Adams with acid dyes using processes that are gentle to the environment. The yarn is untreated so it must be washed by hand or it will felt. 

Though the yarn is a single-ply, our dyeing process strengthens and slightly felts the yarn, making it plump and stronger than you'd expect. The yarn has a loftiness that allows for it to be knit at multiple gauges - as is reflected in the gauge range we list above. Our unique and intense dyeing process creates smooth gradations in deeply saturated colors. We do offer dye lots but there will be variations even within dye lots due to the nature of hand dyeing. Each ball of yarn goes through at least four pairs of hands before it reaches you, being checked for consistencies in spinning, dyeing and gauge. The end result is a rustic type of yarn, with incredible saturation and a dreamy soft hand that you can comfortably wear against your skin.

I decided to knit the Alpine Bloom hat with different yarns yesterday. The background is Madelinetosh Woolcycle - Aura (I really like this yarn) and the flowers/leaves are knit with a Minikin - Wildflower. The yarn is fingering but it plumps up beautifully in the hat.

According to the pattern one Minikin should make all three sizes of the hat. I’m making the medium and when I’m done I’ll try to figure out if there is enough for a large.

Sock kits were also in the box from Freia. I will get those online tomorrow. I was busy this afternoon.

Practically Perfect Sock and Tosh Merino Light are swapping homes. I have the top row of Practically Perfect moved (above) and the top row of TML is done (below). Now that I’m looking at the pictures I see that I need to rearrange TML. Right now it is in alphabetical order but I need to group it by colour - it looks better.

We have two football games tonight - it’s time to knit.

We have a new sample and it is stunning. This is the Bookish Cardi

The Bookish Cardi is a statement layering sweater. It features some of my favorite stitches and techniques: twisted stitches, crochet bobbles, and buttonholes which makes for an addictive knit that you won’t be able to put down! The cropped length, front button closure, and easy drop shoulder style make this the ultimate layering piece to mix and match with your wardrobe.

Deidre knit the 3rd size (with 2” added to the length) and used just over 3.5 skeins of Arranmore Light. Deidre knit the cardigan on 3.5mm and 4mm needles.

My dad is celebrating a big birthday today. 80! He’s still going strong. He goes to work everyday and still loves it. People ask Beth and I why he is still working - he should be retired. We tell them that he enjoys working and it would kill him to sit at home everyday. He does nap every afternoon but who wouldn’t have an afternoon nap if they could?

Beth sent me pictures of the decorations at work.

We sang Happy Birthday then someone yelled because we forgot the sprinklers.

We took the cake back and started again.

Lucy enjoyed the party. I fed her some of my ice cream.

I had a productive day knitting. Now it’s time to get back at it. We have baseball, football and The Great British Baking Show. Thankfully Beth is working the converter tonight.
