More Rainbows

Wannietta sent a close up of her cardigan last night. It's looking good. I can't wait until we have the finished cardigans in the store.
Here is a close up of the twisted stitch patterning along the waist. You can see gradient quality of the greens here!! Frabjous is aces at this.
I left the pic sideways as this is how the garment will be worn. 342 stitches per row makes for rather slow visible progress, but it's coming along!

There were new shades of Fortuna in the box from Classic Elite. This yarn is a great combination of linen, viscose and cotton.
Summery shades with a tone-on-tone dye effect. The same wonderful drape and fabulous fiber combination as self-striping Bella Lino.

Farrah (pattern purchased on Ravelry) is knit in Fortuna.
An A-line tunic worked in stockinette with handkerchief points at lower edge.
The Summer Poncho (pattern free on Ravelry) can be knit in Fortuna.

Outline is finished. All the ends are sewn in and it's blocked. I love Skinny Singles from Hedgehog Fibres. It blocks out beautifully.

Mom and dad (and Lucy) have been in Myrtle Beach for a week. Beth flew down for the weekend. I sent her this picture last night to let her know that the dogs were good.
This is what I got back.
Lucy is ready to head to the dog park.

Someone is very tired after the dog park.

Unpacking

It's here. Mr. Canada Post brought in 3 big boxes this morning. The first two were from LITLG. The yarn is awesome.
Bog Myrtle
Garden Party
Meadow
Metanoia
Rain
I've been playing with colours. There could be another Find Your Fade in my future.

The third box was from Freia Fibers. We have new colours of Shawl Ball.
Pattern: Sonoma Wrap (purchased on Ravelry)
You need two balls of Shawl Ball and 3.75mm needles.
Pattern written for lace, used two shawl balls, alternating ever other row to extend the gradient and make a longer scarf.

After finishing Clue One on my Ambah MKAL last night I worked on Outline. It is finished! Here are preblocking pictures. It's laying out in the sewing room right now and it should be dry tomorrow.
Then I worked on the Medialuna Shawl. The pattern is now available to purchase on Ravelry.

Lucy and dad stopped by after a visit to the dog park.

Winter Cove Again

It was fun knitting on 15mm needles. I finished another Winter Cove this afternoon. This time I used Rasta - what a great yarn to work with.
A lightly-fulled single-ply yarn of magnum proportions! Whip out a super-cozy accessory in just hours with this super-sized delight of a yarn. Our premium Uruguayan merino is just as soft as ever, and Rasta comes in a range of our unique “watercolor multi” colorways as well as a rainbow of semi-solid basics. Unbelievably squishy, this is the yarn to turn to when you want the ultimate in warmth (or the ultimate in speed!)
Now I'm back to 4mm needles - Outline has come out to play. It took a few rows to get used to the needle size.
Today was the perfect day to stay inside and knit. The wind was howling here. It's sweater weather.

Car Ride

What a game last night. When the Cubs were winning I thought about going to bed but Beth talked me out of it. Thank you Beth. When you stay up late watching baseball you can get a lot of knitting done. Outline has been my project for the past few nights because I have the pattern memorized.

Mr. Canada Post brought in a huge box of yarn from Classic Elite this morning. We have lots of Chalet.
Chainette yarns are well-deserving of their popularity...the construction simultaneously provides strength and lightness. Add a luxury fiber blend of baby alpaca and bamboo to that inherent lightness and you have Chalet, a decadently soft yarn with a lovely drape in a chunky weight from our MountainTop Collection of yarns spun from natural, undyed fibers. Chateau is Chalet's colorful cousin, available in saturated, vibrant colors.
Chalet is super light and knit up great in the Remy Poncho (pattern purchased on Ravelry)
Poncho or sweater? Swoncho? Whatever you like to call it, it’s a great transition piece for fall when a coat is too much and a sweatshirt just doesn’t measure up! Great for indoors as well. This piece is a snap to knit and easy to throw on and look pulled together.

Another great project for Chalet (and it's cousin Chateau) is the Coors Cowl.
You need 5 skeins of Chalet and/or Chateau. The pattern is a free download..

Mom and dad decided to introduce Lucy to the convertible this morning.

Usually it’s mom that does damage to dad’s credit card. Lucy took it to another level!

Merinda

Yesterday afternoon I took a few minutes on Ravelry to see what people have knit with Skinny Singles. I came across this pattern from Ambah O'Brien. How come I haven't noticed this before?
Pattern: Merinda (purchased on Ravelry)
Yarn: 3 skeins of fingering weight yarn
Eye-popping neons, speckled hand-dyes, elegant neutrals…
Merinda is an opportunity to let your colour style shine.
Written for three colours, it is easily adapted to suit any combination. Plus, Merinda’s rhythmic increases pair with asymmetrical triangular shaping to create a shawl that is terrific to knit and easy to wear. Sublime!

Suitable for an advanced beginner knitter.

Speaking of Skinny Singles, I've been working away on Outline today.

They're not here yet but I've been tracking the package. The US Post website says that they should be delivered early this week.
Mom and dad have another group of visitors this week. Lucy is loving all the attention. She is looking HUGE. Dad says that she can rest her head on the kitchen table now.

Hedgehog

We greeted Mr. Canada Post this morning with a cheer. He brought our box from Hedgehog Fibres. What a great way to start the day.

Skinny Singles still in the bag. We have 55 colours in stock.

It's been hard trying to do work. I just want to play with the yarn.

While we were putting the yarn away, Alex came in with her latest project. She is knitting Warm-Hearted (pattern free on Knitty.com) in Skinny Singles.

Outline is growing - it's the perfect World Series project because I have the pattern memorized.

Twist sock was in the box as well.
80% Blue Faced Leicester wool and 20% nylon, superwash. Hard-wearing fingering weight yarn with a high twist in the ply. Great stitch definition, best suited for sock knitting. That tight twist will keep precious hand knit socks in shape wash after wash after wash. Soft, yet durable and machine washable. Best of both worlds!
Lynn is working on Embossed Leaves (pattern purchased on Ravelry) with one skein of Twist Sock in Glacier.

It's time to put together some colour combinations for Shock Waves.

Antlers

Cathy just finished a great pair of mittens from Tin Can Knits. I love them and think that I need to make a pair.
You can purchase the pattern for the Antler Mittens on Ravelry...

The yarn is tosh chunky. One skein will make up to an adult medium. A pair of adult large mittens will take two skeins.
These mittens are squishy and warm to keep out the cold! A bold antler cable travels from generous cuffs to fingertips. They are perfect for a winter’s night stroll or a rousing snowball fight.
When you are finished the mittens, there is a matching hat (pattern free on Ravelry)
The last few evenings I've been working on Outline. It's mindless knitting that was perfect for baseball. I've quickly counted rows and I'm almost to the halfway point. I want/need to hurry because the next shipment from Hedgehog is at Heathrow and we should have it next week.

It's raining today and it feels like fall. Tress have lost their leaves and the temperature is dropping. It's time to start getting my sweaters out. Can you believe that Halloween is just over a week away??

Last Halloween we had a group of young men come to the door collecting non-perishable food items. If you live in Hamilton/Ancaster/Dundas, please be prepared to help. The food banks are in need.

If you live outside of this area, please consider collecting some items and dropping them off at your local food bank.

We Scare Hunger
On October 31st, Catholic secondary students will take a bite out of hunger when they go trick or treating for non-perishable food items in support of local food banks. We Scare Hunger is an initiative of Free the Children that inspires students to become active citizens and make a difference in their communities. In Hamilton, nearly 90,000 people live in poverty. Of those, one-quarter are children. Food banks provide support to families who have exhausted their resources and need help to make it through the week.

Student volunteers have already canvassed Hamilton homes with flyers heralding their Halloween night visit. On October 31st, the students will return in Halloween costumes to collect much-needed food supplies and donations for the following food banks:

Bishop Ryan: Neighbour to Neighbour
Bishop Tonnos: Neighbour to Neighbour, Ancaster Community Services
Cardinal Newman: St. Patrick breakfast program, Neighbour to Neighbour
Cathedral: Cathedral Annex
St. Jean de Brébeuf: SJB Outreach Programs
St. Mary: Salvation Army (Dundas), Flamborough Food Bank, Wilma’s Place
St. Thomas More: Neighbour to Neighbour

Together, we can take a bite out of hunger.

This Halloween, please give generously.
