Alpine Bloom Hat

Caitlin Hunter just released the pattern for the Alpine Bloom Hat.

The Alpine Bloom hat is designed as a companion to my Alpine Bloom tee pattern. This Scandinavian-inspired floral design is a fun and striking knit! I used sport weight yarn, but you can play with fingering and DK as well (taking gauge into account) to make this a great pattern to knit again and again. This fun colorwork hat pattern is written for both child and adult sizes.
You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

Caitlin posted this on Instagram earlier today.

Doreen finished her Alpine Bloom. It is stunning!!! She was raving about Emma’s Practically Perfect Sock. She said that the yarn is a dream to knit with. When Doreen started she wasn’t sure about her flower colour (Cold Comfort) but now she loves it. She did lengthen the sweater by a few inches.

A few people have emailed me about the hat and asked for colour suggestions.

This is my Kilim Cowl that I knit and haven’t blocked yet. The main colour is Woolcycle Sport in Well Water with Dyed in the Wool Shades of Earth. These would make an amazing Alpine Bloom hat.

Patagonia is a great choice. You can use it for the main colour or both colours. If you want a striping yarn for the flowers you could use a skein of Patagonia with a ball of Zauberball Starke 6. This will give you at least 2 adult hats. You might get 3 if you make the Adult S/M size.

Of course Dyed in the Wool is a great option. We still have a few discontinued colours of Dyed in the Wool at a great price.

I almost forgot Rowan Felted Tweed. You can use a solid for the background and Felted Tweed Colour for the flowers. Or two colours of Felted Tweed Colour like Rowan used for the Jade Scarf and Marble Wrap.

We have new colours of SweetGeorgia Tough Love Sock. Above are the newest shades. These are the last 10 on the website. Below is the start of the first 18 on the website.
I didn’t get them all on the shelf today. Hopefully tomorrow.
They are hard at work.
One of the two new couches. Dad and Beth each need their own. You can see the beautiful kitchen table in the background. That will be changed one day. The fireplace is going to be whitewashed. I’d like to remove it but it is helping to hold up the cottage. We’ll put in an electric fireplace insert. The ceiling in the TV room will be partially vaulted. We can’t put it up the roof but we can add a bit of height. The floor is going too. New ceiling fans. Wow - the list is getting long. All chores for the next few (or more) summers.
The bathroom vanity. This is the bedroom that is becoming the bathroom. The tile floor is going to be black and white with black grout.
The walls are going to be pickled pine with untreated pine ceilings.

The cottage is perfect for now. Next summer we will move onto the next task.

I wrote during the day and then was able to get some pictures before I came home. Here are some suggestions for the Alpine Bloom Hat.
Rowan Felted Tweed Colour. The two balls on the left are 30 and the two on the right are 29. I wanted to show the different colours in each ball.
Patagonia 117 Pearl with Pop-Click
Woolcycle Dubrovnik with Pop-Click
Patagonia 103 Anthracite with Starke 6 2528
Anthracite with 2095
Anthracite with 110 Thistle
Anthracite and Pearl.

My suggestion is that you pick colours with a contrast. You want to make sure that the flowers stand out. If you’re going to do that much colourwork you want everyone to see it.
