Line Dance

Stephen West’s latest pattern is the Geogradient Blanket. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

This square blanket is a colorful collage of stripes and textures. Choose four colors in a gradient from light to dark and work each section in the round from the center outward. The blanket begins with a crochet granny square followed by garter stitch and eyelet stripes. As the blanket grows larger with increases at each of the four corners, a beautiful zig zag slip stitch pattern is introduced
producing a woven effect. The final border features all four colors with a dip stitch technique. Enjoy creating this special DK weight blanket with woolly yarns like West Wool Tandem. The large size is perfect for a cozy couch blanket or decorative bedspread.

Let’s kick up our heels and cast on a little bit of excitement! This bandana-style mystery cowl is unlike any you’ve knit before. Almost all of the stitches are simple, yet they come together in unique and surprising ways to keep you guessing until the very end. Lines of color and texture will dance across your needles as you create this happy new addition to your wardrobe. The clues are relatively short and easy to work, making this a quick project to add to your queue. Shop for yarn or dive into your stash, then join the knitalong discussions online. After all, a Line Dance is most fun when you join a crowd!

If my mystery wraps have intrigued you, but you’ve been looking for something faster or easier, this is the MKAL for you! This cowl was created to use less yarn, time, and money. It’s full of bite-sized clues filled with stitches that are easy to work, though the mysterious construction will keep you guessing about what surprises are coming next. Shop for yarn or dive into your stash, then join the knitalong discussions online!

Want to know what crazy constructions we’ve done in the past?

  • Brighten Up began as a triangle at the back of the cowl and transformed to be knit in the round for a gradient that gradually ‘brightened up’ as you worked toward the center.

  • Simply Fun started as a rectangle that gradually joined a provisional cast-on to become a bandana cowl. We played with contrasting colors in easy (but clever!) ways for a cowl that was ‘simply fun’ to both knit and wear!

What to expect:
This design was created to bring JOY to your needles by playing with color and simple textures. Almost all of the stitches are simple to work, but the unique construction will introduce both challenges and surprises. I’m always hoping to guide your knitting skills to the next level, so I’ve created video tutorials and diagrams to help along the way. It’s an intermediate pattern, but I love helping adventurous beginners level up! I want this to be a HAPPY new accessory, and a knitting experience that is so much FUN!

The Cowl uses 5 colours of fingering weight yarn. You can use minis or go through your stash. If I have time tomorrow I’ll put together some combinations of Emma’s Practically Perfect Smalls. By yardage it looks like you will need 2 skeins of each colour.

Now it’s time to relax. I was busy all day - sometimes a day off is more work than going to work.
