Welcome December

Here is the newest pattern from Beata (Hedgehog Fibres) that you can download for free. The shawl is called Pelargonium and I will be casting on today with my 24 Days of Minis Calendar.

Painterly scarf design that lets you get creative with your yarns. Designed with Hedgehog Fibres Advent Calendar in mind, this scarf utilizes 20 different coloured speckled mini skeins.

Create your own stunning marled gradient and wrap yourself in a cozy scarf this winter.

The sample shown is based on the colours of Hedgehog Fibres 2023 Advent Calendar.

Yarn: 400g of Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn Minis (90% Merino wool, 10% nylon, 20g/80m) in a variety of colours or scraps. Yarn held double throughout the project.

The colours pictured are ‘Potluck’ colours featured in Hedgehog Fibres 2023 Advent Calendar.

The marled effect is achieved by starting with two strands of Colour A, then you will drop one strand of A and replace it with one strand of B. As you are running out of A, two strands of Colour B, and then B and C and so on. There is no striping with this technique and marling creates a softer transition. You can change your colours at will in blocks that you find visually pleasing or as you are running out of your minis. Marling creates soft transitions and cool new colour combinations that might surprise you!

No two shawls will be exactly the same. How your colours come out will depend on how long you wait before adding in the new colour.

I wasn’t going to bother with my ball winder for the mini skeins. Just roll them by hand. Caution. There are times when you will be holding two strands of the same colour together so you want to wind the skeins into centre pull balls. Here is a link to a tutorial from Interweave.

Here is a video on making your own centre pull ball.

For the Pelargonium Shawl you need 20 minis. Here are 2 Theme Packs from Emma’s that would make an amazing shawl.
Another option is to purchase two Theme Packs in the same colour. You will have longer colour runs this way.

Fiery warm spots melt frosty swirls of winter blues and grays together to create the dreamiest “December” colorway ever.

Spincycle didn’t arrive today - thank you UPS. I hope to see the box on Monday.

Now it’s time to wind a mini skein and cast on my shawl.
