This afternoon I put together some combinations for the Douglas Cardi. You can purchase the pattern on Andrea’s website or on Ravelry.

Lore from The Fibre Co - also a DK.
Andrea calls for DK weight yarn for the cardigan. We have many DK yarns in stock. Here is something to think about. Andrea is suggesting knitting the DK yarn on 4.5mm needles with a tension of 18 stitches = 4”. Most DK yarns have a tension of 22 stitches = 4” on 4mm needles. This means that Andrea is knitting the yarn looser - having more drape. This is a personal preference. Not everyone likes their knitting to have drape. I would suggest you take a DK yarn from your stash and swatch it. Yes, it also needs to be blocked. The try it again with a worsted weight yarn. See which you like better when knit to the required tension. Like I said, this is a personal preference. The DK yarns that I am showing are on the thicker side of DK so you won’t have a problem achieving the tension.
If you are looking at the finished projects on Ravelry, someone knit the sweater in a worsted weight yarn and it looks great. The yarn is actually a bit thicker than Rios and Cascade 220.
Take a look at knitmotif's Douglas Cardi {TEST} and you will see what I am talking about.
- The yarn you want to knit with
- The size you are making - there is no sense suggesting a colour if we don’t have enough in stock
- The colour you would like for your bands - black, purple, grey, brown…
- The colours you like - bright, pastels, earthy…
