Cari and Mary were in yesterday and we were talking about the patterns in our Ravelry library. We purchase patterns and then we purchase new patterns and forget about the older ones. Itineris is one of those patterns. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry. The pattern calls for two colours of fingering weight yarn. For most fingering weights you will need two skeins of the main colour and one of the contrast.

Itineris (Latin for voyage) is a modern triangular wrap with a unique construction. The shawl is made up of three sections: a large triangle, a rectangular extension, and a smaller triangle to finish. The knitting will take you different routes while a graphic stripe sequence forms intersecting pathways along the side. Knit all in Garter Stitch with patterns and shaping that are easy to memorize, Itineris is a fun knit that results in a striking finished piece.

This is my Itineris. The shawl was a fun, easy knit. The shape of the shawl will let you make it bigger or smaller.

Here is today’s colourway for Alpine Bloom. The Dyed in the Wool skeins are Absolute Zero but there are different than most of our Absolute Zero skeins. Most of our skeins are much darker. The kits will be made with these skeins - I can only make 2 kits so don’t wait too long.

I received an invoice from Emma’s Yarns for shipping so I should have more yarn by the end of the week (fingers crossed). Out of stock Alpine Bloom kits will be available and I will make new colourways as well.

Storm

Dad, Beth and I would like to thank everyone for their comments, texts and emails about Lucy. They meant a lot to us.

A customer was in today and was looking for an easy shawl that didn’t take a lot of yarn. This is Joji’s Storm Shawl that is knit with one 100gram skein of fingering weight yarn. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

Storm uses just one skein of precious fingering weight yarn. It features dramatic dropped stitches and short rows that give this pattern a de-constructed look while also giving you a bigger shawl with the same yardage.

My garden was very happy with the rain that we got last night. I complained in the past about the deer that ate my garden. Now I’m worried about those deer. They haven’t visited all summer.

The garden at my house is happy as well.

For some reason I woke up at 5:30 this morning. I got up and watched The Open (golf) and knit. I’m paying for it now. It’s going to be an early night.

We said goodbye to Lucy on Sunday afternoon. She took a turn last Monday at the cottage and quickly went downhill. It wasn’t something we wanted to do but it was the best for her. She wasn’t going to get any better and she was in pain at the end. There were lots of tears but we’ve all come to terms with it. She is in heaven with mom and they are enjoying their time together. She was a great dog!

We spent a lot of time at dad’s last week. You might have noticed that my posts were short. When we got home I didn’t feel like writing. 

Dad, Beth and the dogs went to the cottage this morning. Dad needed some time away. Boscoe is keeping his grampy company.

The Jays are on and I’m going to watch for a bit. There has been some knitting this past week. I’ve knit 5” past the armholes on Alpine Bloom. I think I’m going to add extra length - Caitlin designs short sweaters and I like mine a bit (okay more than a bit) longer.

Malabrigo KAL

Malabrigo is getting ready for their next KAL.

We are excited to announce that registration for our KAL is now open.

This edition features Chevron Delight, a lovely shawl designed by Lora Marin. The garment is knitted with two of our newest yarns, Ultimate Sock and Mohair, which create an interesting mixture of textures.

In the upcoming weeks, we will share more details on this knit-along with the registered knitters, including the pattern (mid August), color combination ideas, the event calendar, our interview with Lora, and more!

I picked our vanity this morning and it has been ordered from Home Hardware. 

I went to a few tile stores and picked these at Centura.

The bathroom floor.

The penny tile is for the shower floor and the bench in the shower. The other will be the wall tile (with a bit darker grout than what is shown). The fixtures are all going to be black. We will be changing the fixtures and handles on the vanity to match. Beth is afraid that the tile isn’t the right shade of teal so we’ll get samples when the vanity arrives. I’m pretty sure it’s good but I’m going along with her to make her happy.

I visited quite a few stores today and now I’m tired. A bit of knitting then bed. 

New pattern and MKAL

This is the Sonja Sweater - a new pattern from PetiteKnit. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

The Sonja Sweater is worked from the top down in stockinette stitch. First, the top part of the back yoke is worked flat. Then, stitches for the shoulders are picked up and knitted along the cast-on edge of the back yoke. The shoulders are shaped using short rows. The front and back yoke are joined at the underarms and the body is worked in the round on a circular needle. Stitches are then picked up and knitted along the underarms for the sleeves, which are worked in the round. At the end, stitches are picked up and knitted along the neck edge, where a ribbed edge is first worked and then folded over to the inside and knitted down on the wrong side. The Sonja Sweater does not require any finishing.

You need 4 colours of fingering weight yarn.

We used a 3 colored fade with a contrast color that is used more sparingly. Our fade doesn’t have a ton of contrast but contrasting yarns are also great if you want to use them. We have 2 speckles in ours but use whatever you want.

I’m taking tomorrow off to go tile shopping. We are adding another bathroom to the cottage. Right now we have one which is livable but two will make life easier. No more knocking on the door for someone to hurry. We have furniture to go to the cottage so we need to rent the barge. While we are doing that we are going to load it up as much as possible. Tile, fixtures, cabinet, shower doors…

Island Raglan

Our friend Fiona Ellis has a new sweater pattern.

You can purchase the pattern for the Island Raglan on Ravelry. The sweater is knit in DK weight yarn so you have many, many yarn options.

A classic style raglan sweater with some additional style and fit elements;

Armhole shaping is added to the underarm before the raglan for a better fit

Waist shaping skims the figure for a flattering shape

A turned hem gives an elegant understated look

The raglan seams are highlighted by cable patterning, which differ on the sleeves for added fun when making the sweater

The more I knit on my Alpine Bloom the more I like how the colours worked out.

I put together some more combinations yesterday.

When our next shipment from Emma’s Yarns arrives at the end of the month I will have fun making more combinations.
