Jolly

You still have time to knit some Jolly Wee Elves for the holidays. The pattern is from Churchmouse (you can purchase it on their website). They suggest a fingering weight yarn (like Le Petit Lambswool or any sock yarn) or a DK weight yarn (like Rowan Felted Tweed).

These little handmade pals, created by Jennifer Evans, are perfect on the holiday mantelpiece, tree, or packages. But they’ll celebrate any season cheerfully! Originally designed for fingering-weight yarn, we love them just as much a bit bigger in DK-weight yarn. Once we started knitting them, we just couldn’t stop!

With elves, it's certainly true that the more you make, the merrier! They’ll naturally all turn out a little different, but you can make them even more various: Taller. Shorter. Plumper. Thinner. All green for St. Paddy’s day. All pink for your Valentine. All white for a snowman with a smart black hat and coal buttons. Once you’ve got the hang of it, the only limit is your imagination. Knit up a whole neighborhood of wee elves!

These elves live on my mantel. Cathy made them for me.
Here are some Elves that I knit with Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok on 3.5mm needles.
I used the Holiday Cheer Woolstok Bundle from Blue Sky Fibers. There are 7 colours, 3 skeins each. The green and red elf were knit with just under 3 skeins. The grey elf was knit with 2 skeins. I have enough in my cream skein to knit at least one more face. The scarves don’t take much yarn.

We’ve been trying to figure out what to do with the bedroom walls at the cottage. Right now they have paneling. Think 80s basement paneling. Beth did some searching online for different options and she found one using wood pallets. Search ‘wood pallet walls’ online and you will see pictures of what we are thinking of doing.

Dad’s winter job is to find pallets on job sites. They found two crates made of pallets at a business near the yard. The pallets were at the road so Beth asked and we were given them. Mike took the forklift and brought them to the yard and dad is pulling them apart.

Beth has gone to the hardware store in town to purchase paint. Tomorrow dad is going to try whitewashing some wood. He will be practicing on old wood in the yard - not these great pieces from the pallet.
When I was looking for Elf pictures I found this one of baby Jackson. That is a ball of Dream State by his foot. Thankfully all the dogs (including Fred) know that yarn is off limits.

Thanks so much for drawing our attention to the Jolly Wee Elf pattern - perfect for my Rowan Fine Tweed and Felted Tweed leftovers. Pallet boards a great idea for cabin rooms.

I love the idea of repurposing the wood, all round win!
