Last Night in Vegas

The Conservatory was beautiful last night.

Today’s task was to go to the Vegas Golden Knights store and get Beth some cool t-shirts. The arena is at the other end of the strip. The store was disappointing and Beth didn’t get a shirt. I took a cab there and worked my way home. 10km and I’m back in my room. I walked through the Bellagio and went to the Conservatory again. I wish they would let me sleep in there.

The lobby at the Bellagio.
From the Hershey’s store. I don’t think that this is a good idea.
There will be new colours of Spincycle coming early in 2023. Normally I wouldn’t share these so early but I wanted some yarn content in my post.

These 4 are Dyed in the Wool.

Vibe Check - also coming in Dream State
Dream State
I don’t think there will be a post tomorrow. I’ll talk to you on Wednesday.

Hello from Vegas

I had a great flight. A few balls of yarn came with me and I got the stitches cast on for Trinigan.

I didn’t get very far. Trying to get photos in a hotel room are almost impossible. The lighting is awful. The colour is close to the airplane picture - not this one. I just wanted to prove that I did get some knitting done.
I started taking pictures when we were about 45 minutes away from Vegas.

The Mirage is as beautiful as I remember it.

I’m trying to stay on Ancaster time so I was in bed early and up really early today. 4:30am Vegas time which is 7:30 Ancaster time.
There is a new hotel downtown called Circa. They have a huge sports bar. HUGE!!! I went to see some football and have lunch.
I wanted to get my blog post finished before I head out again. I think it’s time to go to the Bellagio and see the Conservatory.

Crystal Fantasy

Joji has a new pattern called Crystal Fantasy.

I designed a shawl with a geometric, almost crystal like shape, with diamonds and ridges, to capture this effect.

This wrap is worked from both ends towards the middle, so for most of it you will have to work 2 identical pieces, until you join everything together at the centre.
It uses two types of yarn: a single ply merino and a fuzzy blend of alpaca and silk in the same colorway.

I would suggest Hedgehog Skinny Singles with Hedgehog Alpaca Boucle or Hedgehog Kidsilk Lace. You can also use 2 single ply yarns if you don’t want the fluff. Here is a link to all our fingering weight yarn - there is a lot to choose from.

You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

Packing has been fun. I am that person who has 3 different set of clothes for each day. Just in case. What if it’s warm? Cold? Raining? What if I spill on myself? What if I don’t feel like wearing that? There are usually 3-4 pairs of shoes as well. Packing to carry on is hard!! To make my anxiety a bit worse, Air Canada sent an email saying that they are expecting long delays for security and customs in the morning. We’ll be leaving here at 5:00. YUCK!

My fall planter is looking good. I like how the white flowers are turning pink. More pink came out during the day.
Beth’s supplies to make signs in the morning.

Have a great weekend. I will post as much as I can while I’m away.

Trinigan

Andrea Mowry’s new pattern came out and I am a bit obsessed. I must admit that I wasn’t sure from the sneak peeks but now that I see it finished I want to make it.

I often begin the design process by turning to my closet and looking for gaps in my wardrobe. For years I have been wanting a pull-on-over-anything jacket style cardigan with wide sleeves and easy worn-open style. But make it fashion - with a marled back drop and color changing mosaic colorwork!

This cardigan is knit from the bottom up, seamlessly except for underarms. The body and yoke are worked flat and the sleeves are picked up and knit in the round. The colorwork is achieved using the Mosaic knitting method.

You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry (I have mine).

Andrea used Spincycle’s new Trine with Dream State. I have kits of the original colours online. I will try and make more tomorrow if there is time.

Here are some other options

Main Yarn
-Cascade 220 and Cascade 220 Heathers
-Biches & Buches Le Lambswool
-Madelinetosh Vintage
-Malabrigo Rios
-Harrisville Highland

Contrasting colour
-Noro Kureyon
-Noro Ito
-the same yarn you used for the background yarn

Andrea has yarn substitution suggests and mentions Zauberball Starke 6. I’m not sure if it will be too thin against a worsted weight yarn.

I put together some kits using Cascade 220 Heathers and Ito. You will have Ito leftover and can use it for hats, mitts and/or scarves.

This is Le Lambswool with Dream State. Kits are online and in the store.

I have been asked about another KAL (knit a long) and I think Trinigan is a perfect project.

Here are the guidelines. We will send each person who qualifies a 20% off coupon code for a future purchase when the KAL ends.

  1. Yarn to be purchased at the Needle Emporium. Any purchase from today (November 3rd, 2022) qualifies. If you order online then we have you in the system. If you purchase in the store, please make sure that we take your email address.
  2. The yarn can be any regular priced worsted weight yarn.
  3. Wear your finished cardigan into the store for pictures. We will post these on the blog.
  4. If you live out of town, please have someone take pictures of you in your cardigan for us to post.
  5. If you would like to share pictures while you are knitting I would love to share on the blog.
  6. The KAL will end on January 31, 2023
If you participated in the Elah KAL please check your in box. I sent out the discount codes this morning.

Beth informed me at dinner that she will be putting a few yarns on sale on Saturday. What are they? She won’t tell me but did say that she is not picking any worsted weight yarns. She is going to put signs up on Saturday morning. Beth really wants you to come in and see her. The more you purchase the better presents she will get from Vegas.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Surprise!! 52 Weeks of Socks is being reprinted and we will have copies in December.

52 Weeks of Socks is the first hardcover book by Laine Publishing. This publication contains 52 knitting patterns by 46 designers and is a true encyclopedia of socks. Patterns are beautifully photographed and laid out on 256 pages in the style Laine is known and loved for.

The book contains patterns from the following designers: Heidi Alander, Fiona Alice, Gina Baglia, Ainur Berkimbayeva, Katrine Birkenwasser, Karen Borrel, Sachiko Burgin, Diana Clinch, Verena Cohrs, Valentina Consalvi, Rachel Coopey, Nele Druyts, Marion Em, Lindsey Fowler, Fabienne Gassmann, Lucinda Guy, Dawn Henderson, Anja Heumann, Tiina Huhtaniemi, Caitlin Hunter, Mieka John, Amanda Jones, Joséphine & the seeds, Pauliina Karru, Isabell Kraemer, Tatiana Kulikova, Joji Locatelli, Erika López, Andrea Mowry, Paula Pereira, Rosa Pomar, Elena Potemkina, Amelia Putri, Emily Joy Rickard, Mona Schmidt, Nataliya Sinelshchikova, Marceline Smith, Minna Sorvala, Helen Stewart, Charlotte Stone, Becky Sørensen, Niina Tanskanen, Natalia Vasilieva, Kristine Vejar, Kajsa Vuorela and Mariya Zyaparova.

On Sunday night I started contemplating getting away for a few days. On Monday I booked a trip to Vegas. I am leaving on Saturday morning and coming home on Tuesday. Beth and a special guest will be working on Saturday.
Lynn will be back for the day.

Yesterday I had planned appointments and they were good timing. I had my hair cut and I had a pedicure. Before, in between and after the appointments I was in the store. I started moving things around and making sure price signs are on everything for Beth and Lynn.

The next problem is my knitting. I am going carry on only. No checked bag. I don’t think I can deal with that horror of them losing my bag again right now.
I can’t take a big project so I am going to start a Pressed Flowers. Trine (13°) for the background and Rios (Cloud Sunshine) for the flowers. I think I should only take one of each because there isn’t knitting time in Vegas but then there is the dilemma about running short so I’ll probably take 2 balls of each.
My yarn is wound and I will cast on during Survivor.
