Sweet Shawlettes

At the beginning of December I received an email from Jean Moss asking me to participate in a blog tour for her new book Sweet Shawlettes. I'm flattered that Jean and her partner Phillip thought of me and asked me to join.

In early January an envelope arrived in the store with a copy of the book. WOW! There are patterns available for cowls and capelets but Jean takes these to a higher level. When you start flipping through the book you think you have found the one that you want to make. Then you get to the next page and there is another that you have to have. Easy to knit stocking stitch. Cables. Entrelac. Lace. Fair Isle. Intarsia. Take your pick of different knitting techniques. Her yarn suggestions are amazing-most are done in Rowan.

Harlequin
Yarn: 2 skeins Rowan Colourscape Chunky
Needles: 6.5mm

I like it over the shoulders but am really liking it doubled around and worn as a cowl. I like it so much that I have started making it for myself.

Ceilidh
Yarn: Rowan Lima
Needles: 4.5mm and 5mm

Did you know that Ceilidh is the Gaelic word for party?

Twine
Yarn: Rowan Big Wool
Needles: 12mm

It's all in the twist: The secret to Twine's wonderful, woven-rope look is the final step, which makes a rectangle into a twisting Mobius strip of alternating textures.

Bronte Fichu
Yarn: Rowan Purelife Renew
Needles: 4mm

I didn't know what a Fichu was so I Googled the word and found this on wikipedia

A fichu is a large, square kerchief worn by women in the 18th century to fill in the low neckline of a bodice.

Drift
Yarn: 2 balls of Rowan Big Wool
Needles: 12mm

Easy cables, plenty of rest rows and virtually no finishing.
