Cables

Last night while I was trying to fall asleep I was thinking about a chunky coat with cables. I couldn’t think of a pattern and it hit me this morning. This is the Deep Winter Coat from Wool & Pine (pattern purchased on Ravelry).

Introducing Deep Winter Coat, the perfect blend of style and comfort to carry you through the colder months. This cabled cardigan features a wrap-around silhouette, thick hand-knit belt, and deep shawl collar to keep you cozy and stylish all season long. The luxurious worsted weight yarn held double adds a rustic edge to the classic design, creating a timeless piece that captivates your needles. 

The pattern is knit seamlessly from the top down in a relaxed style and longer fit, giving a refreshed and modern twist to the classic cardigan. The back shoulder is cast on separately, and then joined with the front shoulders along the back neckline before working flat to the armholes. The three pieces are then joined and worked flat to the hem for an easy-to-follow construction. 

The set-in sleeves are created by picking up stitches around the sleeve holes, working short rows for a smooth-fitting sleeve cap, which is then joined in the round and knit to the cuff.

The deep shawl collar is picked up and worked in 1x1 ribbing, with short rows used to create a wide, cozy collar around the neckline. Add an optional belt in 1x1 ribbing for a classic wrap-around style with rustic vibes. 

The Deep Winter Coat pattern includes written and charted instructions as well as video tutorials to guide you through the process, making it the perfect project for knitters of all skill levels.

The coat is knit with worsted weight yarn double stranded. Le Lambswool from Biches & Buches is what I am thinking. I’m not started today because I have a project that I want to finish this weekend but I could be starting soon.

I don’t think I would do the belt - I’m not a belted sweater kind of girl but buttons would be great.

This is Stephen West’s newest sock pattern. He won’t lose these in the wash.

Gather a colorful collection of fingering weight sock yarn and enjoy the playful bubble stitches and two-color brioche. These socks are knit top-down in the round. Select one main color and choose several color pops to decorate the funto-knit stitch patterns. I used 7 total colors for my socks, but you can use as many colors as you like. Dad and Beth are off to the cottage for the weekend. I won’t be able to make it but dad needs a break. He is doing well and everything is good. He was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and today finished his 20th (and last) day of radiation. His doctor is very happy with how everything is going. We are very lucky to live in Hamilton and have the Juravinski Cancer Centre nearby. 

Between early morning appointments, working and a new puppy he needs a few days of fishing.

We have known the Juravinksi family for years. Charles (we knew him as Charlie) owned Flamboro Downs Race Track and my dad built it for him. When I was young I spent many Saturdays on the jobsite picking up trash and sweeping. The barns were built first so Saturday lunch was with the trainers. We learned how to read racing sheets at a young age.

What am I doing while they’re gone? I’m going to block Alpine Bloom. Everything is knit (it has been for at least a week) and I need to get it washed and laid out to dry. My other job is to finish my Trinigan. The body is finished and I’m picking up for my sleeves. I worked on it at the cottage but couldn’t put it on for a picture. It was way too hot.

Now to order some pizza and work on the website. More about that in tomorrow’s post. Today’s is long enough.

Another Box Arrived

Addi needles and Zauberball Yarns are now coming from the US distributor. It took a bit of time to get everything working but our first order just arrived and another order has been placed. We should have all needles in stock by the middle of the month. 

We received more Ewenicorns today.

While unicorns are (likely) mythical, Ewenicorns are not! The 𝘀𝗸𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗹 𝗯𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶® Ewenicorn Turbo circular needles feature a spiraling texture and a pliable pink SOS cable. They're easy to work with and eye-catchingly fun as well! Plus, they're named after ewe (sheep) + unicorn, and who doesn't love a play on words? 

We had a restock of Zauberball Crazy. More colours will be coming later this month including new colours.

We have kits online and I need to make more combinations. That is tomorrow’s job.

I received an email from Spincycle today letting me know that we are going to have 2 brand new colours of Dyed in the Wool (top row) and Dream State (bottom row). Dear Diary is the lighter colour and Purse First is darker. These should be here next week. Oh my. Look at all the purple. 

Tonight was our Fantasy Football Draft. Now I need to sit with a tea and relax.

Home Again

We made it home safely this morning and I’m Fred sitting this afternoon. Dad and Beth had appointments. While I’m watching him I started my post and I’m finishing a newsletter. It should go out tomorrow.

He’s lying by the pantry door. I think he’s hoping it magically opens and he can get into his dog food.

We call this Boscoe Island. It is a very small island off our property. The previous owners made a walkway from land to the island. Boscoe loves to run out there to see what is happening. The leaves are starting to change. I can’t wait to see what everything looks like in a month - the colours are going to be amazing.

It’s later and now I’m in the store. Beth picked up Fred so I could come pack boxes. 

Sorry - there isn’t much knitting content today. I was in the store until 6pm getting everyone’s boxes out. Tomorrow I will have yarn to talk about. 😀 

Hello from the Cottage

 

We’re having a great time the cottage. It’s a little hot for my liking but we’re managing. This was at 6:30 this morning. Dad, Beth and the dogs go out fishing early before it gets too hot.

I did some knitting outside while watching FBI. We have lots of very tall trees so there is shade on the deck.

Fred found a new place to sleep.

A little bit of knitting news. We are going to be getting in some 24 Days of Minis Calendars from Hedgehog. These should be arriving in October. I’ll post more information and put these online for preorder when I get home.

I hope everyone had a great Labour Day. We’re heading home early in the morning and I’ll be going to the store to pack orders. Boxes will go out on Wednesday morning.

I’m writing early so I don’t have to worry about doing a post when I get to the cottage. The truck is packed and I hope to be out of the store at 2pm. A quick stop at the grocery store and then I’m off. The internet at the cottage isn’t great. We didn’t buy wifi for the cottage because it was really expensive. Island life. I use my phone for a hotspot. If I don’t post for a day or two it could mean two things. My phone internet wasn’t working or I’m having too much fun. 😀

Different

We have a new store sample. This is Same But Different. Diana knit the cowl in under a week. She loved making the cowl - so much that she is knitting one for herself.

Same, but Different is a bandana style cowl, knit flat from the top down, similar to a triangular shawl. The distinctive patterning is simple to create, using the mosaic knitting technique. Carefully designed to integrate seamlessly from top to bottom, those captivating spine stitches are the prominent characteristic of Same but Different! But wait, there’s more … SBD also features a split seam at the back and a continuous I-cord bind off, for a beautiful and professional looking finish.

I tried the cowl on and it sits nicer on a human. Lynn is going to come and help me for a few days later in September and we will get pictures.

The dogs are super excited to be back at the cottage. Dad and Beth tried to have a nap this afternoon. No go - the dogs wanted to be outside playing.

It’s bedtime. I had a great day in the store. It was super busy and the day flew by. I have running around to do in the morning before opening the store. Don’t forget that we’re closing early so I can head north.
