Daisy Doodle

This is the Daisy Doodle Pullover from Annie Lupton (Boho Chic Fiber Co.). You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

The Daisy Doodle Pullover is a cheerful drop shoulder, boxy-fitting pullover. The body features an overall flower colorwork motif that will have you yearning for spring blooms! Knit up in hand-dyed yarn from two lovely farms in VT, available in a variety of natural shades. The color possibilities are as endless as your imagination! Add a pinch of spring hope to your wardrobe with the Daisy Doodle Pullover.

Construction: The Daisy Doodle Pullover is knit in stranded colorwork from the bottom-up in the round. At the armholes, the front and back are worked separately, flat. German short rows are used for the shoulder shaping. Stitches are picked up, and sleeves are worked outward from the body in the round. Neckline stitches are picked up and knit and worked in ribbing outward from the body in the round.

The sweater is knit in fingering weight yarn so your options are endless.

Dad dropped all your food donations off to Ancaster Community Services. We collection 107 lbs of food. Thank you to everyone who donated. Ancaster Community Services was very appreciative - the food bank is running low and this will definitely help.

Extra Lite Bright

Wool & Pine has a new pattern. This is Extra Lite Bright and you can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

Extra Lite Bright is the fingering-weight remix of Lite Bright, a design built for color, creativity, and yarn you already love. With the same relaxed silhouette and easygoing construction, this version brings all the fun of the original to your favorite sock yarns—with a lighter twist.

This is the kind of knit that invites you to play. Fade five colors or ten, go loud or low contrast, stash dive or pick up a kit! Extra Lite Bright features easy colorwork (no floats!) and a fade that’s planned for you, so you can spend less time guessing and more time knitting.

Custom Fade, Made Simple
Our fade calculator takes out all the guesswork. Just enter the number of colors you want to use, and we’ll help you space them perfectly. Match the sleeves to the body or do your own thing—either way, it’s going to look amazing.

Knit in fingering-weight yarn for a breathable, layerable tee or sweater that works all year. Choose short or long sleeves, soft fades or bold contrasts—whatever feels right.

Construction Overview

Extra Lite Bright is knit seamlessly from the top down, beginning with a shaped scoop neckline. The yoke is worked flat in one color through Steps 1–3, then joined in the round for the rest of the body and sleeves. A compound raglan gives balanced shaping across all sizes.

Once the yoke is complete, the body and sleeves are separated and worked in the round. Both short and long sleeve options are included. A ribbed collar lets you customize the neckline depth, and the 1x1 ribbing finishes everything off cleanly. Colorwork is done with easy repeats and no floats to catch.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Built for sock yarn: A stash-friendly tee or sweater you’ll actually wear.
  • Easy colorwork: No floats to catch
  • Fade your way: The fade formula handles the details, you bring the yarn.
  • Sleeve options: Short or long, depending on your vibe.

And if you’re already a fan of the DK-weight original, this lighter take brings the same joyful structure and silhouette—just with a lighter feel.

This is a great looking sweater. I have some colour combination ideas that I will play with when I’m back in the store.

Remnants

This is the Remnant Shawl from Stephen West. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

Dive into your collection of fingering weight yarns and knit this scraptastic brioche shawl. The simple semi-circular shape is knitted top-down in the syncopated brioche stitch. One color is changed every 2 rows to create the scrappy striped effect. This project is perfect for leftover fingering weight yarns from your other shawl and sock projects. The pattern is written for a large shlanket size, but you can easily knit a smaller version by skipping ahead to the final row and I-cord bind off at any time.

Hedgehog Fibres has a new pattern that you can download on their website.

Soft and cozy, perfect for your handspun!

I love handspun yarn combined with simple textures. I really enjoyed watching the colours shift while knitting this lovely oversized wrap. it comes together seamlessly at the end with a three needle bind off and a garter stitch border with a cute picot cast off.

Yarn
For this shawl I spun one 250g pack of Hedgehog Fibres Lucky Dip Fibre in Pastels. I ended up using 230g of finished yarn which comes to approx. 966m (420m/100g).

If you are not using handspun, 2 row stripes with colours of choice would look really pretty.  For a similar lofty feel, I would recommend Hedgehog Fibres Oh So Fine Merino (100% Merino, 425m/100g) in a choice of 4 colours, A, B, C and D (or more).

Here is a link to the Oh So Fine that we have in stock. You can also play with your remnants of yarn to make this shawl. The pattern suggests 5mm needles so I think you could knit it in DK weight yarn or you could knit it with a skein of fingering weight and a skein of Mohair/Silk.

It’s Friday morning and I’m writing my post early. I think we’re going to be really busy tomorrow and I won’t want to write when I get home but I want to share these new patterns with you. Happy LYS Day and I’ll try and write again on Sunday with pretty LYS day pictures.

Party at the LYS and Gradient Lights

Deidre finished our Party at the LYS Shawl yesterday. It is gorgeous. The name of the shawl is Gradient Lights and you can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

Gradient Lights is a top down triangular shaped shawl. While knitting sections of texture and lace you will gently fade from one color to the next resulting in a stunning transition from light to dark.

I designed this shawl specifically for Emma’s Yarn’s LYS DAY limited edition kits.

Kits go live at midnight. The Party at the LYS Day kit includes a code to download the pattern on Ravelry and a Sweet Sheep Lotion Bar.
We also have 3 skein fading kits that would work great for the shawl. These are yarn only - you will have to purchase the pattern on Ravelry.
You will find the kits on the front page of the website as well on the LYS page on the website when they go live.

I was in the store for a long time today and I think we’re ready. I’m heading to bed now for a few hours of sleep before waking up at midnight to make sure all the sale items are showing up properly. Then a few more hours of sleep before heading back to the store. I’m excited for tomorrow.

We have asked everyone who is coming to the store tomorrow to bring non perishable food items for Ancaster Community Services. This was on their Facebook page this morning. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated.

New Hat Pattern

Freia Fibers has a new hat pattern that uses Minikins. The pattern is called the Taconic Hat and you can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

This is a hat knit in the round in a tube shape, beginning at the crown with your cast on, increasing to full width and then commencing a short row pattern. The short rows naturally give a 3 dimensional aspect to the hat making it “bubbly”.

It’s a good idea to knit the hat at a tighter gauge:

  • because you will use most of the yarn available to you
  • because the 3 dimensional structure creates more give to the hat making it grow easily to fit larger heads.

Upon completion of all the short row repeats you will begin the decrease at the opposite crown. This will create an oblong oval shape. Finally to finish, fold one end in the other to create a double thickness, reversible hat.

Size
Pattern is written in 2 sizes, Adult Small and Adult M/L.

The short rows:
The type of short rows you choose to use for this hat is up to you, I use wrap and turn and adjust my picked up stitches to keep them from being twisted. Here is a link to four common methods, pick the one you are most comfortable with:
https://www.interweave.com/article/knitting/short-rows-fo...

The colors
This design calls for 4 Freia Fingering Minikins. I alternated colors 1+2 5 times, then colors 3+4 5 times creating a more marked difference in the two ends. The main thing to keep in mind is you will get a max of 5 repeats out of any one ball (or 4 repeats plus a crown end) and you can use the colors in any order you like, but opt for the most dramatic color change between striped to emphasize the short rows.

Minikins will be on sale on Saturday for 50% off. This sale will only be available in the store.

Alex spent some time in the store with me today. We made signs, put together kits and moved around the last few things. I think we’re ready for Saturday.

Now it’s time for hockey and knitting. Have a good evening - I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather we had today.

Blue Jeans

Laura Aylor has a new pattern called the Blue Jeans Wrap. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

This easy textured triangular wrap is worked sideways with I-cord edges. Starting at one side with just a few stitches, you increase to the mid-line and then decrease to the other side. If you want to work at a different gauge and/or to a different size, you can alter the number of pattern repeats as needed.

Pattern is charted and written.

The shawl is knit with fingering weight yarn - your yarn options are endless.

Lynn helped me in the store today. We continued with our rearranging for LYS Day.

We had a visitor this afternoon. Her name is Leanne and she has a knitting podcast that Lynn follows.

A day with the dogs

Today I sat at the island working on LYS Day signs and updating the website.

Noro Akari will be on sale for LYS Day. Lynn knit her Traveler Cowl with one ball.

Choose two balls of Akari (different colours) to make the Nightshift.

It was an early day today. I was up at 6:30 to help get dad and Beth out the door. It’s my job to make sandwiches for the guys working on the jobsite. They live up there during the week and I’m pretty sure they don’t eat well - pizza is a favourite. Fresh sandwiches are a big hit along with the chocolate chip cookies and brownies we made last night. Now I don’t feel guilty when I stop at the workshop and fill my truck up with gas.

The dogs had a lazy day.

This happened today. Eleventh Hour for a Traveler Cowl.

Now back to my cardigan. There are a few hockey games on and my kettle has boiled. There is a small problem though. Boscoe is tucked into my knitting chair.
