It’s a Hedgehog Day

Sarah has a new sweater. It is gorgeous.

This is Tanis Lavallee’s Rock It Tee (pattern purchased on Ravelry)

From Tanis

I used to think that summer knits weren’t for me, boy was I wrong! There is nothing more comfortable than an easy breezy knit top. Over the past few years I’ve been working steadily towards building up my summer knits wardrobe. I’ve got a few summer knits in my closet now but what I realize was missing is a staple, go-to, v-neck tee. I’ve chosen to create tone on tone stripes by alternating between fingering and mohair yarn in my favourite shade of blue, but this basic shape lends itself to infinite possibilities when it comes to stripes and colour blocking.

Knit top down, flat until the neck shaping is complete and in the round after that.

Sarah used Hedgehog Skinny Singles and Kidsilk Lace in the colour Graphite.

LOVE how this turned out! Light weight and luxurious! So happy with the colour combo. Sometimes simple is best. I did the 4th size and added long sleeves. I picked up the sleeves as directed then knit 2 stripes (16 rows) before decreasing 2 stitches every 8 rows until desired sleeve length.

I received an email from Hedgehog today and they are unable to get Kidsilk Lace right now. The mill that makes it for them is temporarily closed due to COVID. We have a little coming in about 2 weeks and then fingers crossed the mill will open again soon.

The colours coming are Artichoke, Budgie, Cereal, Ozone and Potion.

Linda sent me a picture of her finished Kentia top. She used Hedgehog Sock in the colour Electric. What a great looking top!

Kentia is a slightly cropped tee worked seamlessly from the top down. The lace motif at the yoke and the loose fit make it an easy and flattering garment to wear.

They are filming a Made for TV movie across from the store today and tomorrow.

It is something to do with a Bakery - I don’t remember the name. They did have the cutest bakery truck. And we got some snow in front of my store too.

It’s a big sports night so I should get some knitting done on the secret project. I have finished one item and am making another in a different colour.

Monday Deal

This is Churchmouse Yarns Easy Fold Poncho. Above is the original version knit in Rowan Felted Tweed. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry or on the Churchmouse website. You need 5 balls for the original poncho. If you want to add a small cowl to the poncho (pictured below) you need an extra ball.
Our favorite poncho transcends the trends.  It's easy to knit (just one long stockinette rectangle), easy to finish, and easy to throw on. Whether knit in a humble tweed or luscious alpaca, with a cowl or without, you'll see why this is a Churchmouse favorite!
This is a new version made with an open collar. For this version you need 2 extra balls. Download the addendum from the Churchmouse website.

My little experiment worked very well so I will be placing an order tomorrow morning. I can’t share yet but I will when the yarn is on the way to us.

After much thinking the Monday Deal is moving to Wednesday to become the Hump Day Deal. This gives me a few days at the beginning of the week to get my post ready and the website updated. I already have this weeks deal picked out and will have a post ready for noon on Wednesday.

Math Class

These hexagons are joined to make a beautiful blanket. The pattern is from Tin Can Knits and can be purchased on Ravelry.

Remember in math class when you learned all those different shape names? Not really? Meet polygon, a blanket of scrumptious garter hexagons.

Four layout options are illustrated, however the blanket is modular, so you can adjust size by working more or less hexagons.

The hexagons are worked from the outside to the inside - this means you are starting with a short circular and ending with double pointed needles (or a long needle doing magic loop). I think this is easier than working from the middle out.

Tin Can Knits used a double knitting weight yarn for their afghan but you can use whatever thickness you want. Knitters on Ravelry have used fingering, sport, dk and worsted.

You might be commenting that you don’t want to have to sew all the pieces together when finished. You’d rather knit a blanket where you join the pieces as you go. Yes, that is a great idea but as the blanket grows it is hard to carry around with you. This way you can carry around a hexagon in your purse.

While we are talking about an afghan that is knit in pieces, Andrea emailed me a picture of her finished Log Cabin Afghan. It is gorgeous.

Now onto a secret project. I’m trying something and if it works I will be doing an order for new yarn on Monday.

Teddy

Spark is growing. Just a few more rows and then the main colourwork chart is finished.

This is Rowan’s new Soft Boucle.

Boucle yarn is such a favourite for autumn and winter, adding texture to any knit. This chunky version is blended from cotton, alpaca, Merino wool and polyamide, knitting up quickly on 6mm needles to create a light, but warm fabric. Available in a range of classics and neutrals for timeless style.

The pattern book is available on the website.

I’m home early because I needed to have my glasses fixed. I lost the screw this morning and wore them with tape while in the store. It was something my dad would do. Now that I’m home I can work on the website. Our WiFi is so much faster here.

Faux Fur Pompoms are online now.

I took some pictures of new Rasta colours with pompoms.

This is colour 174 Carousel.

Top left is a Racoon Pompom in teal. Then Frost, Lilac and Ink Blot Faux Fur.

This is 167 Mejillon. On the left is a Racoon Pompom in Periwinkle and on the right is Lilac Faux Fur.
This 177 Blueberry Cream. On the left is a Racoon Pompom in Eggplant on the right is Orchid.
Rasta in Unicorn Bark with a Faux Fur Pompom in Rainbow.
Beth and Boscoe worked from home today which meant that Boscoe had a lot of energy when I got home. This is his snake that squeaks. After I took pictures he got two of the three squeakers out. Then he proceeded to demolish the snake. He’s cute but we don’t buy him stuffed toys anymore. They don’t live for very long.

New Yarn and Books

Old Soul arrived and it’s on the website. There are 4 bases

-Soul Single

-Soul Twist - a fingering weight wool and nylon blend that is great for shawls or socks

-Soul Slub

-Soul Mohair - a blend of silk and mohair

Kaffe’s newest book arrived this morning as well. The patterns are so beautiful.

The new Felted Tweed colours. Wow!

Lynn stopped by today wearing her new Shift. The colours are gorgeous. She used Dyed in the Wool Melancholia, Mississippi Marsala and a light colour that I don’t remember. 😂. Robin’s Egg would work. Pick Your Poison would too.

She left with new yarn. Old Soul Single and Slub in the colour Twinkle Toes to make another Ranunculus.

There is more to show but I have spent way too much time in front of the computer today. It’s time to knit 🧶.
