Nightshift # 13 or 14 or 15?

Alex brought my finished Nightshift in last week but it’s been so cold I haven’t taken it outside. Today it was snowing like crazy so I took a picture in the store. Blocking does make all the difference. The shawl looked good when the knitting was finished but now it looks amazing!

Yes I love knitting the Nightshift. I’m not sure if this is my 13th, 14th, 15th or a number even higher.

Needles: 5.5mm

Today’s shipments. Two large boxes of Cascade and the third box has Noro Ito, Patagonia and Lykke needle sets. Lynn is coming tomorrow in her running shoes to put yarn away.

It’s a great evening to be inside and knitting. I’m working on my Ooey Gooey Cowl. A few more rows and I’ll have repeated the pattern twice. Then I have 62 rows until finished.

A decade ago

I’m seeing a lot on Instagram about looking back to 2016. Andrea Mowry showed some of her patterns from 2016 in her latest newsletter. 

One pattern that came out was Find Your Fade. 

This is the start of my first Find Your Fade from December 2016.

Here is Andrea’s version. Unfortunately Hedgehog has discontinued one of the colours so we can’t match the colours exactly but I can put together something equally as beautiful.

Starting at a single point and growing, shifting and fading into a piece that begs to be wrapped up in. This asymmetrical triangle shawl uses some clever increasing and decreasing, combined with relaxing garter stitch and simple lace so that you have a fun-to-knit canvas to play with mixing colors on! Get creative - this is YOUR shawl! Use only 1 color, or 3, or 10. Need help with color selections? I highly recommend diving into your stash (or the shelves of your LYS) and untwisting the skeins and then laying them next to each other. Look for nuances that can be seen from one color to the next - if your first color has some gold (like mine), why not snag an awesome speckled skein that also has some gold and another color you love (ahem - pink), so that after the speckled skein you can start stitching up that favorite pink skein you have been hoarding! I finished the shawl by the middle of January 2017. I couldn’t put the shawl down because it was such a fun knit. So fun that I knit it twice more.

The furnace in the store started acting up on Saturday. I spent the day in the store yesterday waiting for the repairman to come fix it. After a few hours he said it was good. I accomplished a lot of paperwork but got home after dark by the time he was done. I was cold and tired and after dinner went for a nap. When I woke up Beth had picked a movie. It didn’t win any Academy Awards but it kept us laughing. I couldn’t stop watching to post. 

This morning I went to the store and it is nice and warm again. After errands I sat and knit for a bit.

I’m two rows short of the halfway point. I am obsessed. I think there will be another one in my future. Th only problem is that Boscoe can’t keep picking up my ball of Dyed in the Wool. Dad thinks it’s so funny and keeps telling Boscoe to bring it to him.

I’m early today because this afternoon I’m having my hair cut. Then it’s my job to make dinner since it was my day off. There will be some more knitting tonight. 

My Ooey Gooey Cowl

Watching SWAT on my iPad and knitting. Yes I started an Ooey Gooey Cowl (pattern purchased on Ravelry).

Two more rows and I will be 1/3 of the way through the cowl. It’s a fun easy knit.

No ball of Spincycle is safe when Boscoe is around. I’d be knitting away and all of a sudden my ball was across the room. He’d look at me like ‘what are you going to do about it?’. Dad and Beth would laugh.

Now back to my knitting and the football game.

Design Details

This seamless top down sweater begins at the shoulders with short row shaping to form the V neckline. The lace and cable panels are integrated into both the front and back and flow cleanly from the shoulder join into the body.

We’ve scaled the lace motif on the back to maintain visual balance across all sizes, so it looks cohesive and well proportioned no matter which size you make. See Soft Current Tee for more examples.

Christmas Gnome

Sara Schira posted pictures of her finished Gnandad’s Great Adventure. He is so cute.

Gnandad, aka Gnorland Gnackwell, is a gnome of many hobbies. A quilter, a photographer, a skier, and now a traveller. He features a slipped stitch pattern mimicking embroidery for his fancy, festive holiday clothes. You never use more than one colour per round. An Estonian braid serves as his belt.

Gnandad is knit with fingering weight yarn. We have kits available if you’d like to knit yourself a gnome. You can put your own kit together by purchasing 4 skeins of Emma’s Practically Perfect Sock Smalls. We will have more colours arriving at the beginning of February.

The Arranmore Light has arrived. The website is updated. We also received a shipment of Rowan Felted Tweed and Kidsilk Haze. I was busy unpacking.

Snow Day

This is Modern Twist from Heidi Kirrmaier. The sweater is knit in worsted weight yarn so you have many yarn options. The pattern can be purchased on Ravelry.

Design: 
This design is a modern twist on a traditional cable knit sweater. It has a simple cable (twist!) pattern, modified drop shoulders, and the option of a crew neck or turtle neck. 

Fit: 
Measurements shown above are the body circumference of the finished garment. I suggest you choose a size that measures approximately 4-8 inches (10-20 cm) more than your actual full chest/bust measurement. 

How it’s Knit:
It is knit from the top down, in one piece. You begin by knitting the upper back, then stitches are picked up for the upper front sections and the shoulders are shaped with short rows. It has some armhole shaping and then the body is knit in the round. Sleeve stitches are picked up from the main piece, and the sleeves begin with some short rows and then are knit in the round. Collars sts are picked up and knit at the end. 

The pattern includes links to videos that show a couple of the techniques, just in case that is something you find helpful.

Lynn’s Jaunty is growing. Now that she is decreasing the rows go much faster.

We had a snow day. The dogs loved the snow. Beth had to run to the drug store late this afternoon to pick up dad’s prescriptions. She said the roads were still awful and she is driving a pickup truck with snow tires and she had it in 4X4. Hopefully everything is better in the morning.

Finished Ooey Gooey Cowl

Linda visited today wearing her finished Ooey Gooey Cowl. I’m in love. It was my first time seeing the cowl in real life. Linda loves it so much that she bought yarn to make another one.

Linda used Emma’s Suri Silk in Beach Please with Ghost Ranch Dyed in the Wool. She didn’t add the twist when she sewed it together.

Now I think I want to knit the cowl.

I was out the door early yesterday morning to visit our travel agent. We finalized everything for the train trip. Thin it was home to this set up and doing paperwork. By the time dinner hit I couldn’t sit any longer to blog.

It looks like we’re going to get snow tonight. If it’s bad in the morning then I’ll wait to head to the store. Please call before heading out to visit us if it’s snowing.

Train Trip

 

A weekend of football means a weekend of knitting. I should be finished by the weekend. Then I have plans to get back to one of my sweaters. I’m not sure which one but there are quite a few that need sleeves. My mom had the same problem. We found many projects with a front and back but no sleeves.

I don’t know what Beth did to the dogs at work today. They are all sleeping while we’re watching The Price is Right.

Today I booked a trip for dad and I. We’re going on the Rocky Mountaineer in April. Beth and I have been thinking about a trip for him for a while but we weren’t sure what to do. Last week I had an ad on Facebook for the train and Beth and I both agreed it was a great trip to take. Dad and mom were thinking about the train years ago. Beth has been obsessed with it for some time as well. Dad is excited!!! 

While I was booking the plane tickets I thought about a plane trip I took years ago to Los Angeles for TNNA in Long Beach. Bev and I were at the back of the plane. Julia and Karen were a few rows ahead of us. Karen thought that it was a good idea to knit white angora on a plane. She had a man beside her in a beautiful black suit. Every few minutes we could see Karen pulling yarn out of the ball and white angora was flying everywhere. The poor man got off the plane covered in fluff. I vowed that day that I would never knit with a fluffy yarn on a plane. 

Winter Sunset

Today I put together kits for Kaffe Fassett’s Winter Sunset. This fun scarf is knit with Rowan Felted Tweed and Rowan Kidsilk Haze.

These bright colours are the colours that Kaffe used for the scarf.

Not everyone wants the bright colours so I made two different combinations. 

There are so many colours of Kidsilk Haze and Felted Tweed that I could put together many, many combinations. Come on in and I’ll make you your own kit.

This weekend is all about football. The playoffs are starting so there should be lots of knitting time.
