Losing at Yarn Chicken

Andrea Mowry has a new scarf/shawl pattern. You can purchase the pattern for Jaunty on Ravelry.
My hope for this project is to spark your creativity and sense of adventure! Don’t be afraid to play with different yarn weights, adjust the size, and use up your stash. Try different yarn textures, holding multiple strands together, or using handspun for a truly personal touch. The rhythmic stitch pattern offers a soothing flow, while the simple construction and adaptable sizing means you can use what you’ve got. This is definitely a pattern to knit again and again! This shawl is a shallow triangle, knit sideways using Half-Fishermen’s Rib. Do you love this stitch?

These are just approximations. Total yarn usage will depend on the yarn you use (fiber content, ply, etc.), your personal gauge, how big you make your shawl and any modifications you may make. Remember, this shawl is perfect for using up odds and ends and playing with different yarn weights and sizes! Keep a scale handy and follow the directions in the notes on pg. 3 to use what you’ve got!

I’ve purchased the pattern and read through it. It looks like mindless knitting. This is a great project to use up stash or play with yarns that you’ve been looking at. There are finished samples on Ravelry. Someone used Crazy Zauberball with a mohair. There are scarves knit with Dyed in the Wool. Some knitters made their scarf in a solid colour and others did multi-colours. Some used two different yarns - 2 rows of one and 2 rows of the other. Have fun. Be creative.

Andrea includes instructions to make sure you don’t run out of yarn. I knew this but didn’t take it into account on my current project. Sometimes we think we are smarter than we are.
I’m knitting another Sophie Scarf in Plump. It was perfect knitting for football on the weekend. I got to the halfway point and didn’t think I was going to have enough yarn but just kept going. I am going to run short. My last two scarves worked perfectly in 3 skeins but not this one. It can happen. I’m upset with myself for not going with my instincts. I’ll get another skein in the store tomorrow because that is much easier than ripping back 1/2 a scarf.

Now it’s time for the Jays.

New kit combinations

Today has been all about making kits. I was in the store early to pack boxes and get them out. I had to wait a long time for Mr. UPS which gave me lots of time to make kits and get them online.
I started with Alpine Bloom. Kits are available online and in the store.

Here are some new combinations.

Then I put together kits for Andrea Mowry’s Ooey Gooey Cowl (pattern purchased on Ravelry.)
These kits are online. There are a few more kits in the store that use one of a kind skeins.
The last kit I worked on was the Plumped Up Cowl (pattern purchased on Ravelry).

Now a bit of knitting while watching the football game.

Happy Saturday

I finished my second Sophie Scarf in Spincycle Plump. Alex was in yesterday and took it home to block and sew in the ends.

I have a surprise. We are now carrying Thread & Maple. For the time being everything is going to be preorder and then we will work towards stocking items. If Thread & Maple has stock we will have it in 2 weeks. If not it could take up to 8 weeks. It is going to take some time to get everything online. The Leather Convertible Backpack is there. I have one in the store for you to see.

I also have a needle binder in the store. There are so many neat components. I’m going to start getting this online in the next few days.

Fred on my bed last night. He wouldn’t jump up on my bed because it’s too high. I have a blanket box at the end of the bed but he wouldn’t use it. Beth and I moved the box beside the bed and he finally figured out how to get up. It took some coaxing to move him so I could get in.
Beth left early for work this morning. Poor dad is squished in with the 3 dogs. Yes he has the ugliest comforter possible. There is no sense buying him something nice when the dogs are on his bed all the time.

Rowan Brushed Fleece

The Attune Shawl has a new home. We knit our shawl with Patagonia and Starke 6. Kits are available online or we can put a combination together for you.

While Lynn and I were moving yarn around we found a lot of Brushed Fleece. Rowan has discontinued most of the colours so we have decided to clear out the yarn. It is on sale for 40% off. Don’t wait. There are still sweater quantities in many of the colours.
Here is a link to Brushed Fleece on our website.

We have discontinued Sirdar in the store and it’s time for you to take it home. Snuggly Crofter, Peekaboo and Rascal are priced at $5.00 a ball. This is only available in the store.

Lynn kept me busy today. Spincycle Plump has a new home which let us move one grid out of the DK room. The room looks much bigger.

This was on Rowan’s Facebook page today.

I didn’t get my Sophie Scarf finished so I’m going to say good evening and move to my knitting chair. I need to hurry before Boscoe decides he wants to sit there.

Rearranging

I was tired before the store even opened. I spent the morning rearranging. It happens when the seasons change. Sometimes samples are overlooked so if we put them in a different spot customers will notice them.

This is Mode at Rowan Softest Alpaca. The sample is called Hale.

Our Traveler Shawl knit in Malabrigo Washted. There will be a Washted restock next week (along with Rios, Malabrigo Sock and Ultimate Sock).
Killer Queen cowls knit in Malabrigo Rios. The samples from left to right are Diana, Grain and Blue Jean.

The goal is to have kits made for as many samples as possible. This will make shopping easier for you and it makes it easier for us to help you when the store is busy.

I’m not finished. There are so many ideas running through my head that it’s kept me up the past few evenings. Lynn is coming in with me tomorrow and she will get up on the step stool to help with a few more displays. While she is doing that I will be making new signs for everything.

Now the Jays and a bit of knitting. I might be able to finish my Sophie Scarf tonight.

Ozzy Cardigan x 2

Tanis Lavallee has two new patterns. This is the Ozzy Crew Cardigan and you can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

I am a very big believer in the magic of halo. For this classic cardigan I held a strand of fingering weight merino with a strand of mohair and the etherial glow and elegant drape that it brings to the garment is chef’s kiss! It’s instantly elevated. I love how the soft fabric plays with the graphic lines of this cardigan.

The cardigan is knit with one strand of fingering weight yarn and one strand of laceweight mohair.

The Ozzy V Cardigan (pattern purchased on Ravelry) is knit in DK weight yarn.
How delightful is this two-toned button band!? The Ozzy V Caridgan is possibly the most effortlessly chic item of knitwear that I own. I can imagine it in endless colour combinations but think that it would be equally lovely worked up in a single colour, or maybe something with a halo like mohair to give it a softer overall look. Whatever direction you choose, I know you’re going to live in this cardigan!

I had a good day with the dogs. We did laundry, cleaned the kitchen, worked on the website and did a bit of knitting. There was also a short nap.

I’m at the halfway point of Sophie Scarf number two. I’m using Plump again - this time in Levitate. Now it’s time for baseball.
