Happy Saturday

We sold our house! It’s a happy day to see the sold sign. The move won’t be happening until March but we’re so happy that we don’t have to clean the house every morning in case people want to come through. We love Jackson but he leaves hair everywhere.
Isabell Kraemer has a new pattern called Heimathafen and you can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.
Starting with the neck shaping, short rows are worked back and forth to create a higher back neck. The yoke is then worked in the round to sleeve separation. Increases are worked in the main color part of the yoke. The lower part of the yoke is shaped with raglan increases. Sleeve stitches are placed on hold to work the body top down. The 7/8 sleeves (feel free to reduce/add length) are worked top down in rounds to the cuffs. No finishing required.

The sweater is knit in fingering weight yarn so your options are limitless.

I’m wearing another Isabell Kraemer design as I’m writing - Elah. Isabell writes an amazing pattern and her understanding of sizing is incredible.

I cast on my Traveler Cowl last night. It is the perfect plane knitting. I really want to work on it while I’m in the store today but I don’t think Lynn will let me.
Lynn is wearing our Traveler Cowl knit with one ball of Starke 6. It is a great alternative to those who don’t want to knit with Spincycle.

I’m leaving from the store at 3pm to head to the airport. I’ll be early but I don’t want to worry if there is traffic. Then I’ll have lots of time to knit!

Inclinations Shawl

I spent some time helping a knitter pick out colours to knit the Inclinations Shawl. I was showing her the shawls that I knit and then decided to share with all of you.

You can purchase the pattern for the Inclinations Shawl on Ravelry.
This shawl is all about texture, squish and the movement of color. Watching the colors move and change was mesmerizing, and I finished the shawl long before I was ready to, because I just could not set it down! You can absolutely play with different color options, and I share some ideas in the pattern, but don’t be afraid to make it your own! Knit it in 1 color or 6! Use up some stash, colorblock or stripe! It is knit flat, sideways, with increasing along one edge to create an asymmetrical triangle.

My colours are Neveruary, Ranunculus, Midsommar, Love Spell, Light-Years and Bright Ideal.

Love Spell is discontinued - Big Sky would be a great substitute.

Miss Me and Rusted Rainbow
Close Call and Rosy Maple
Absolute Zero and Shades of Earth

I put together a combination this afternoon as I was walking by the Dream State.
Afternoon Delight & Rosy Maple
Melancholia & Levitate
On the Low & Purse First

Thanks to all who visited today and shopped online. Lynn and I were busy!
This happened when I got home. Meet Rabbit Hole Dyed in the Wool. I will get this online tomorrow.

Big Big Wool

Lynn has been doing some tidying in the store and found my secret stash of Rowan Big Big Wool.

Big Wool goes even bigger! We’ve taken this much-loved yarn and doubled it! Achieve super-quick results in no time at all with this next generation yarn. Warm and cosy, this 100% merino wool has a beautifully balanced palette of shades to choose from.

Here is a link to the patterns for Big Big Wool on Ravelry. I will be making the vest. If no one purchases the yarn I might have more than one vest 😘

I have put the yarn on sale for Black Friday. It is 20% off and then because your order is over $400 you will get an extra 20% off. Your total before tax will $345.60. You will be purchasing 2 full bags (10 balls in a bag) of the same colour.

I have a new windshield in my Expedition and it was nice driving and not looking through a huge crack. I just got home and Beth is making me a grilled cheese sandwich. After dinner I’m going to knit for an hour and then early to bed. I’ll be in the store early to pack boxes.

Mr. UPS should be bringing our Spincycle tomorrow. This is Rabbit Hole Dyed in the Wool and I will be using it to knit a Traveler Cowl while I’m away.

I have already knit two Traveler Cowls with Dyed in the Wool. I love to wear this cowl and it’s a fun knit.
Don’t forget that we will be open from 11am-5pm tomorrow.

Bear Claws

You might be familiar with Xandy Peters Fox Paws pattern. She just introduced Bear Claws that was knit with Rowan Felted Tweed. You can see more pictures and purchase the pattern on Ravelry.
Bear Claws was designed to celebrate the 10th birthday of the stacked stitch technique and the Fox Paws pattern. This engaging striped colorwork project features a large scale flame stitch motif. The pattern is relatively simple, using only a few rows of shaping in combination with color to create a distinct claw motif.
The wavy colorwork in Bear Claws is created using stacked increases and decreases. There are no loops on the wrong side and the wrap is very stretchy and drapey. The fabric is light and airy, not dense like stranded colorwork and mosaic knitting. If you’re new to stacked stitches, check out my playlist on YouTube.](http://shorturl.at/iSX08).) You’ll have an easier time with these stitches if you’ve tried increases, decreases and slipped stitches.
This pattern can be recolored in many ways, the coloring page available to anyone who wants to download it. You can use any number of colors you like, as long as they have good contrast. I recommend picking a Main Color that is not too bright or flashy in comparison to the others.
Written instructions are included in the pattern alongside a visual guide called a “stitch map.”  It’s not the same as a traditional chart and is meant to be used with the written pattern. The rapidly fluctuating stitch count of the stacked stitches doesn’t fit nicely into a square grid. Instead, the map uses symbols and lines that bend and flow as the rows do, as they would in a crochet chart. The primary use of the stitch map is to show how each row relates to the last and to help you find mistakes and get back on track.
I worked from home this morning. I needed to finish a newsletter and get all my signs ready for the store. When you come in on Thursday there will be bright signs showing what is on sale and the sale price. I’ve been checking my list two and three times to make sure I didn’t forget anything. I’ve also added to what we are putting on sale. Keep checking back because by tomorrow evening you never know what will be on the website. Then I did some errands before having my hair cut. Then more errands.

The newsletter is finished and will be going out around 7pm tonight.

Tomorrow morning I need to run my Expedition in to have the windshield replaced. I got a stone chip on one of my trips to the cottage and it has spread. The truck went in last Wednesday and when they took the new windshield out of the box it was the wrong size. We’re going to try again tomorrow.

Now a bit more work before dinner. It’s pasta night.

Last week Mr. UPS brought our box from Emma’s and I put together more kits for Gnana’s Visit.

We have one more MKAL for the Christmas season. This is from Stephanie Lotven and you can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s Christmas time AND it’s time for the MERRYMAKING Mystery Knit-A-Long! This Christmas mystery knit-a-long is unapologetically jolly. Using a combination of textural stitches and stranded colorwork, knitters will knit some Christmas cheer this holiday season. Knitting begins December 1st with one clue a day for 12 days. That’s 12 days of Christmas knitting! The final clue will be released on the twelfth, so you have plenty of time to wear and enjoy your cowl before Christmas. Let’s make something merry!

SCHEDULE
You will receive one clue a day for 12 days beginning on December 1st and ending on December 12th. That’s 12 days of Christmas knitting!

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • seamless construction
  • stranded colorwork
  • textural stitches
  • slipped stitches
  • video tutorials
  • Christmas knitting fun!

A portion of this cowl will be worked in textural stitches. These sections will be charted and include written instructions. I provide tutorials to help you through the textural stitches. This pattern includes stranded colorwork. In fact, MOST of this pattern will be worked in stranded colorwork. The stranded colorwork will be charted, but will not include written instructions. All stranded colorwork will be done in the round and you will never need to carry more than 2 strands at once. The Merrymaking cowl is intended for intermediate knitters who are comfortable with stranded

SIZE
ONE SIZE : Adult

The overall shape & size of this cowl is NOT part of the mystery. This will be a shawl-shaped cowl. This is my absolute favorite shape for knitting a cowl. This shape is wonderfully wearable, and it is PERFECT for working colorwork in the round. If you have never knit one of my shawl-shaped cowls, check out the Witch’s Brew Cowl (this was my Halloween MKAL cowl).

Now I need to say goodnight so I can write a newsletter with the Black Friday information.

Cambridge

Tanis Lavallee has a new pattern. Everyone can use a vest in their wardrobe. You can purchase the pattern for Cambridge on Ravelry.

I didn’t realize just how much I needed a vest in my wardrobe until this beauty entered my life. Now I don’t know where I’d be without it! Layered over button up shirts, t-shirts or turlenecks. Paired with jeans, corduroys or trousers. It goes with everything! It’s quickly become the most versatile knit in my wardrobe and I have become a firm believer that vests, are indeed, the best.

This vest is knit seamlessly from the top down. Stitches are cast on and the back is knit flat with some short row shaping for a better fit through the shoulders. Stitches are then picked up for one shoulder at a time and the fronts are knit flat with shaping for the neck. After the front is complete the front and back are joined and the body is knit in the round to the hem.

Tanis used one strand of fingering weight yarn with a strand of mohair/silk. You can also knit the vest with one strand of worsted weight yarn.

This is Jennifer Steingass’ Newleaf which is one of our most popular sweaters. I put together some new colour combinations. Okay, I cheated a bit. I used some of the combinations that I put together for Autumn Alpine. The sweaters are knit with the same yarns.
Norwood is another great pattern from Jennifer and I updated the kits for this as well.

Happy Saturday evening. I’ve been knitting and almost forgot to finish my post.

New Patterns and New Products

Boscoe and Fred were complaining that I haven’t showed their picture lately. Beth took this yesterday afternoon at work. This is how we were all feeling after work yesterday. Our real estate agent held an agent open house yesterday morning. We were up early vacuuming, washing the floors and making the house sparkle. And it sparkled.

Ambah has a new pattern coming at the end of the month. This is perfect for an Advent kit or mini skeins of your choosing. Here is a link to Ravelry.

Knit yourself a gorgeous floral lace throw to treasure over the years to come. Create one for yourself or as a gift for that very special someone. Each square is designed to use a mini-skein of yarn, perfect for a 24-colour set. Or use up those lovely leftovers you’ve been saving and create a patchwork memory blanket of all your favourites. Alternately you could make a monochromatic version with your favourite colour; the options for you to express your creativity are endless. Designed for 24 colours, the Cosmos Blossom Throw could easily be made larger or smaller to suit you.

The pattern includes both written and charted instructions for the lace. A pinhole cast on is recommended, with a video tutorial linked.

Jennifer Steingass has a new sweater pattern. You can purchase the pattern for the Harvester sweater on Ravelry.
With its motifs that swirl around the yoke, The Harvester sweater creates a sense of movement around the wearer. On one shoulder leaves are wrapping around, on the other they are flying off, like leaves whirling around in the autumn wind. While the pattern calls for only 2 colors, lots of test knitters had fun coming up with unique and inspiring color combinations, creating fades with various yarns or by using a gradient yarn. This sweater is worked from the top down, is seamless, and knits up quickly in the round with DK or worsted weight yarn.

You can use DK or worsted weight for the sweater. Some yarn ideas are

  • Malabrigo Rios
  • Blue Sky Woolstock Worsted
  • Cascade 220 Superwash Merino
  • Biches & Buches Le Lambswool
  • Spincycle Dream State
I highly suggest that you swatch with whatever you choose. You might need to adjust your needles depending on the yarn you choose.

Take a look at this version. It is amazing. I want to get out my fingering weight leftovers and try this. The fade is amazing and you know I love the colours.

Here is another awesome version. She used Felted Tweed for the body and then used a fingering weight held with mohair/silk for the contrast.
Soak has a new sample box which is perfect for gift giving. The Soakbox Sampler is available online and in the store.

Six Soak fragrances in one great gift set! All our gentle scents (excluding Scentless) in cute 3oz travel-size bottles – it’s the perfect introduction to Soak.

Try out all the scents, keep their clothes clean on the go – and gift them to other lovers of Soakworthy things.

Each SoakBox Sampler contains a back card with hand- and machine-washing instructions – and a handy list of all the things you can wash with Soak.

Celebration, Fig, Lacey, Pineapple Grove, Wild Mint and Yuzu.

We received 5 brand new colours of Cascade 220 Heathers yesterday. These are online and in the store.
