Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine 78

We won’t see the fall Rowan until October 1st but you can preorder Magazine 78 now.

Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine is a seasonal publication that has been cherished by knitting and crochet enthusiasts worldwide for over 40 years. Each issue presents a curated collection of patterns, showcasing the work of renowned designers such as Kaffe Fassett, Lisa Richardson, Erika Knight and Martin Storey and many more. Known for its beautiful photography and interesting editorials, the magazine is eagerly anticipated each season.

I spent a good part of the day making up kits in the store. We have many samples and it was time to have kits for the samples. This makes shopping easier.

I just checked UPS and we could see the new Kathmandu Fingering on Friday. There is a lot of Patagonia in the boxes as well including 3 brand new colours.

My new store planters.
I might have brought yarn home to start a new project. More on this tomorrow when I have pictures. If I have pictures because I might be in bed early. I was up late last night watching the Jays and then up early to get into the store.

Gnumpkin and Gnettle

Gnumpkin is a very pumpkin-y gnome. Gnettle takes that pumpkin-y base and adds a witchy look. Gnumpkin and Gnettle are like fraternal twins - similar, but different. They are fundamentally the same pattern, but a few changes create a big personality difference. Perhaps Gnettle is Gnumpkin dressed up for Halloween? Or Gnumpkin is the unassuming secret identity for Gnettle when she’s not saving the world? Or perhaps they’re just really close cousins.

Either way, they’re similar enough to be the same pattern but different enough to deserve their own place on your shelf if you want to knit both.

How does it work?

You’ll get 6 updates during October. These will tell you what to work on next. Sometimes the update will have the same file for Gnumpkin and Gnettle, and some times they'll each have a separate file.

There will be video tutorials for all the parts I think you might want help with. I want this to be all joy, no worries.

Because Gnumpkin and Gnettle are a mystery gnomes, I can't tell you much about them. The 'skills used' listed below will give you a bit of a sense of what you'll be doing, but don't get intimidated. It's all just knitting, and you'll be great at it. Plus wonkiness is gnominess.

Grab your copy on Ravelry. You'll get access to a PreKnitalong PDF you can download right away with all sorts of information, tips, and links.

33% off with code “OctGnome33” until Sept 30.

The kits are a preorder and will be arriving before the cast on date. Here is a link to the website.

Beth called me around 10:30 this morning asking if I was still at home. She needed me to get a few things ready because they were heading to the cottage. I asked when and she said ‘in an hour’. Very last minute. The weather looks good for the next few days. After they left I did some errands. They made it safely and have been fishing all afternoon.
I went to Terra this afternoon to purchase new planters for the store. The big ones at the entrance would look amazing at the store.

The display planters are beautiful.

After visiting Terra I’ve been sitting at the kitchen counter working on the website and placing orders. The Kathmandu Fingering should be shipped from the US today and we should see it by the end of the week. Here are a few more of the new colours.

Then an email came through from Spincycle and they are getting yarn ready to ship.
A very Lynn colour of Dyed in the Wool called Open Water.

Plump - Levitate

Plump - Eleventh Hour

The planter I bought for our house was so tall it had to put on the floor of the passenger seat in my Expedition. Mike ran from the construction company to take it out for me because it was so heavy. Terra had the big planters on sale which was a bonus.

Now dinner and some knitting. I can watch whatever I want tonight 😘

Baa Ram Ewe Donegal Twists

This is Caitlin Hunter’s Ovis hat. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry. The main colour is a DK weight yarn. The sheep are knit with a strand of fingering weight held with a strand of mohair/silk.

Kits for Stephen West’s Mystery MusiKAL are online.

This is Ardara from Baa Ram Ewe (pattern purchased on Ravelry). It is knit with the new Donegal Twists.
Ardara is a modern take on a traditional fisherman’s sweater. Its simple design allows the colourful nepp in our Donegal Twists yarn to pop. This sweater features a part ribbed, part rolled collar and cuff with a raglan shoulder.

Dad and Beth are out so it’s me and the dogs.
I was in the store all day so now it’s time for some knitting.

Alpine Bloom Again

We have a new store sample. Deidre knit Alpine Bloom (pattern purchased on Ravelry). We knit the second size for the sample.

Yarn

  • Kathmandu Fingering - 2 balls of colour 27
  • Spincycle Dyed in the Wool - 2 skeins of Miss Me
The Kathmandu Fingering looks great knit up and it feels good. Lynn wore the sweater all day Saturday. I had to stop her when she was leaving because she still had it on.

I ordered in a few colours of Kathmandu Fingering to try the yarn and we all love it. There are many colours coming - hopefully this week. I made up kits using the swatches from Kathmandu and Spincycle.

You can use Kathmandu Fingering to knit Autumn Alpine if you want a long sleeve version of the sweater.
Thanks M for taking a picture in the sweater.

This is my set up right now.
Coming tomorrow - kits for Stephen West’s upcoming MKAL. I took pictures yesterday but haven’t had time to get them online. I’ll be making up more combinations as well.
