Come Together

These were finished in March (my New Year's Resolution) but I needed to block the textured cowl. Lynn got out the steamer and pins today and now it is looking good. Why not wet block? I knew that I liked the size and didn't want it any longer. The steamer was a better idea on this project.

Both cowls are from one Come Together kit from Classic Elite. The kit has 6 balls of Silky Alpaca Lace and you wind all 6 into one big ball. My kit is Peace.

I'm still working on the cast off of Exploration Station. There hasn't been a lot of knitting time but I'm hoping there will be lots this weekend. The store is closed on Friday and spring/summer hours have started so we are now closed on Mondays until the fall.

Someone got a new bed and is very, very happy. So happy that he fell asleep.

Family Day

Tomorrow is Family Day so the store will be closed. It should be renamed 'Sit on the Couch and Knit Day'

Last night was the annual Valentines Dinner to raise money for Honduras. For some reason it is always very cold on the night of the dinner. The dinner is held in a school gym and Beth and I are on the team of people serving dinner. Be a server for an evening and you will leave a big tip every time you eat out. It isn't easy. The money raised ($13,000) provides support for various community development projects in Honduras and the Carpenteros' Education Fund. 

Today was all about resting. And knitting. I pulled out the infinity scarf that I am knitting with Classic Elite Silky Alpaca Lace. There are 6 strands held together which gives a great tweedy look.

The yarn came in The Come Together kit and there is enough yarn to make a large project like a scarf and a small project like a cowl or hat. I'm going to use the left over yarn to make a cowl.

It's time to set aside the infinity scarf and start the cowl. I'll knit the cowl to where I want it and then use the left over to finish the infinity scarf. This way I use up all the yarn. I really hate having anything left over.

Of course I can't find the needles for the cowl so I went back to Ley Lines. Normally I hate working a project in ribbing but this shawl has grabbed me. I can't put it down. It's time to get back to it and watch CSI. We have two episodes tonight and from the commercials it looks like Nick is leaving. I am going to be so sad. :(

Churchmouse Yarns has taken their Color Play Mohair Scarf (a smaller version of the wraps that I have been knitting) and worked it up in two colours of Kidsilk Haze Stripe. You need one ball of each colour and their scarf pattern (we have copies in the store.)

Because Kim Hargreaves is known for her subtle and beautiful sense of color, Rowan asked her to create six new, more tonal colorways of Kidsilk Haze Stripe.  

Using our Color Play Mohair Scarf & Wrap pattern and our free adaptation, we held two different colored strands (365 Nightfall and 367 Vivid) of Kidsilk Haze Stripe together throughout to make a richly toned scarf. Because each skein stripes differently, we think watching the colors evolve makes this a compulsively knittable piece. It also means that no two scarves will be alike! 

It's kind of a trial run before knitting the wrap. You will see that it is addictive watching the colours change.

Peace (the Come Together kit) is growing. The kit has 6 patterns in it but I chose something different. It's a take off of the Technicolor Cowl from Dream in Color. When finished, I will write it up for those who purchase the kit and want to make a bigger infinity scarf.

I'm home. The roads weren't nice for the drive. Very icy. Thanks dad for letting me drive your pick up truck. The mustang would not have been happy. Football is on and I'm going to knit.

Come Together

I decided on my next project. A Come Together kit from Classic Elite. The colourway I chose is Peace.

I have been putting off starting the kit because I wasn't happy about winding the 6 individual balls into one big ball. Lynn was in today and she did it for me. It took 20 minutes at the most. I'm not sure what I was so worried about.

I'm going to make a cowl so I'm not too worried about tension. However, I wasn't sure how the 6 strands at once would knit up so I cast on 10 stitches and did a few rows. The decision - I'm going to go up half a size needle. I think that the strands will fill out and I will get a cowl that flows a bit more. We'll see after I cast on 200 stitches and do some rows.

Don't forget that the store is closing at 2pm tomorrow afternoon and then will reopen on Friday at noon.

Will the cowl get finished in that time?
