Clapotis ‘24

Here is my Snowflower KAL so far.

If you aren’t familiar with Snowflower here it is in the original colours. There are some interesting colourways on Ravelry.

From Knitty.com

The Clapotis (pronounced “clap-o-tee”) was first published in Knitty’s Fall 2004 issue. It took a while till people noticed it, but soon the pattern was on the needles of almost every knitter with an internet connection. As of September 2024, there were almost 24,000 versions logged in Ravelry’s database, and who knows how many more have been knit, unlogged?

This is the 20th Anniversary of the Clapotis, and so we wanted to celebrate this wonderful, versatile pattern and the woman who designed it – Kate Gilbert

You can download the pattern for Clapotis 2024 for free on Knitty’s website.

I went through old blog posts to find versions we had knit. The first is Jane’s knit in Silk Garden Sock.
This is mine also in Silk Garden Sock. We both used 2 balls for our scarves. Blocking is needed for this scarf and these pictures were taken pre blocking.

A store sample knit with the original yarn called for in the pattern. You can see how blocking makes the pattern look so much better - this scarf was blocked and the pattern lies flatter.

This is another that I knit in an discontinued Madelinetosh yarn.
From Knitty

Suggested yarn: Any yarn in any weight can be used in place of the discontinued original yarn. Adjust needle size to match the yarn you use so that the solid sections read as solid. The finished shawl will be most interesting when a non-solid colorway is used. Because of the simple stitch pattern, a super-variegated high-contrast colorway can work well here. Note that with fuzzy yarn (such as mohair or brushed alpaca), dropping the laddered stitches will be a bit more laborious. Yarn with stretch/memory, such as non-superwash wool, will show the ripples best. Shimmery, smooth yarns will not hold the ripples but can also be beautiful.

You can use any yarn thickness you want and the pattern goes into detail about this.

I’m very early tonight. Beth is bringing home dinner and then it’s back to knitting. Survivor starts tonight.

Fright & Delight

This is the Fright & Delight hat from Blue Sky Fibers - a free pattern on Ravelry.
Skeletons and bats, oh my! This frightfully delightful hat uses one Woolstok bundle and is perfect for the eerie season.

The hat is knit with one of the new Fright Delight Woolstok Bundles from Blue Sky. These are available online and in the store.

Freia Shawl Balls are another yarn that will be 40% off tomorrow at noon. Here are some patterns that we have knit with Shawl Balls.

This is Stripe Study (pattern purchased on Ravelry) knit with two Shawl Balls and a solid fingering weight yarn.

Leaves in a Stream (pattern purchased on Ravelry

Two gradient colorways intertwine, and with German short rows, create a stunning play of light and shape in fingering or aran/worsted weight yarn.

You need two Shawl Balls that are very different colours for the shawl.

Here is a link to Ravelry showing Leaves in a Stream that were knit with Shawl Balls.

Here is a link to Romi’s group and Leaves in a Stream. There are some great suggestions here. While I was reading this some people were using two Yarn Bombs for the shawl to make it bigger.

We used 2 Shawl Balls to make the Sonoma Scarf. We wanted the colours to grade once. By working both balls at the same time (two rows of one and then two rows of the other) we made the grade longer.

You can also use one Yarn Bomb to make the Sonoma Scarf (pattern purchased on Ravelry). We suggest a 3.75mm or 4mm needle if you are using a Yarn Bomb or Shawl Balls.

Dinner is finished and I’m going to knit. The second chart on Snowflower is finished and I’m going to start the third chart.

They left me behind

Ambah O’Brien has a new pattern called Little Raven Shawl (pattern purchased on Ravelry).

The Little Raven (Corvus mellori) is a bird species of the family Corvidae, a native to southeastern Australia and a regular visitor to my garden. These intelligent and inquisitive birds have beautiful black feathers that are so glossy, they shine almost white in the bright sunlight. As a talking bird, the global symbolism of ravens is often complex and can represent insight, transition, transformation and a connection between the material world and the world of spirits. Choose between the small and large fingering weight or the DK options and knit yourself a feathery, triangular shawl creation. Use glossy black yarn to represent the shawl’s namesake, or choose the colours of your favourite bird and let this sweet project fly off your needles.

If you would like to do a shawl with more than one colour we have a few options. A Yarn Bomb from Freia would be perfect. These will be online and in the store for 40% off starting Wednesday at noon. Another option is a Theme Pack from Emma’s.

Though exceptional stitch-definition has long been a hallmark of our single-ply yarns, the loftiness of this Merino Fingering is particularly versatile, lending itself to be stitched up in a variety of gauges without losing definition or drape.

Our unique dye process also results in a very slight felting which creates a wonderfully pill-resistant fabric. Voracious Freia fans will be perhaps most excited by the upgraded yardage. These 200 gram “Yarn Bombs” measure 860 yards, with enough yarn for a good oversized shawl. They will truly shock and awe you!

Or you can knit the shawl in a solid colour.

I was in the store early to pack boxes. Then I moved on to counting yarn so that the website will be correct when the yarn goes live Wednesday at noon. Things were so crazy on Saturday that we couldn’t put in the colours people were buying - we just picked the first colour on the list. The numbers on the website were wrong for all the sale yarns. I didn’t get all the yarn counted so I’ll be back tomorrow to finish.
Dad, Beth, Jackson and Boscoe were on the boat ready to go fishing. Fred wouldn’t come and they kept calling him. Finally they pulled away and then he came running. Beth had to redock the boat and he jumped on. He won’t make that mistake again.

What a great day

Thank you to everyone who came yesterday. We had a great day. Lynn and I were tired at the end of the day and that is a very good thing.

I need to thank a few people.
- Lynn who came in during the week to help me get ready. She left home very early yesterday morning and called me around 7am that she had a flat tire. Luckily she was able to pull off the highway safely at Centennial Parkway and pull into the Honda dealership. A kind young man coming into work changed her tire for her. She was amazing helping everyone yesterday.
- Alex came a bit later and brought Lynn and I tea. She helped customers and straightened a slight messy store.
- Kelley brought Lynn and I tea in the afternoon.
- Luba brought me a stash of tea - I enjoyed it when I got home last night.
-Everyone who came - you were awesome. Everyone was patient while shopping and waiting to check out. You made it a great day.

Customers were lining up just after 7am and I let them in at 7:15. By 8:30 we had to hold the line. The store was jammed!! As customers left new people came in. Our parking lot was full and the empty lot beside us was packed. People were parking on the grass. We cleared out quite a bit of yarn. YAY!!!
I knit for most of the day. I started on Frame Your Face. My pattern is on my iPad and the battery ran down later in the afternoon so I moved to Snowflower while my iPad was charging.

I just made a fresh tea and am going to knit for a bit. I think I’m sticking with Snowflower. I’m not finished the second chart and the third chart came out yesterday. I need to catch up.

See you bright and early

A customer was in today with her amazing work.

She bought a jean jacket and cut out the back panel. Then she sewed in rug hooking canvas. These are different fabrics, ribbons and skeins of Practically Perfect Sock Smalls. She promised to wear the jacket in when it is finished. I can’t wait to see it.

I think we’re ready. I was in the store until 6:30 and have all the price signs up - I hope.

We found some older balls of Freia yarns - worsted, fingering and a few lace. These are on for $10 a ball.

The website has been updated. The Point of Sale is ready. Now it’s time for me to head to bed. I hope tomorrow is a really long, busy day.

Alpine Bloom

Last night I was lying in bed and thought that I should wear Alpine Bloom on Saturday. Then I started thinking about where my sweater was. I looked in my dresser and everywhere I had sweaters stored. I couldn’t find it. It wasn’t in my closet. After a half hour of panicking I finally remembered where it was. I was going to wear the sweater but then remembered that it gets really hot at the cash desk and it is supposed to be a warm day on Saturday. Now it’s on display.

Lynn and I tried to make it very easy for everyone to find yarn on Saturday. Tosh Vintage has moved so it’s right out front in the worsted weight room.
Tosh Wool + Cotton moved as well.

Tomorrow I’m going to put together a few more kits and start getting the website ready. All the sale yarns need to come off until next Wednesday.

Dad, Beth and the dogs are at the cottage for the weekend. It could be the last really nice weekend. This will give me time to sit and knit tonight without worrying about dinner or cleaning. The nice man from Dominos brought me pizza and now I can get back to my knitting. I’m about to start the second skein of Dream State.

Driving Again

This morning Lynn and I made a pretty display for Freia Minikins and Solemates.

Lynn rearranged a lot more in the store as well. I think we are ready for Saturday - the only thing left to do is the sale signs. I think all the garments on display have signs and I need to make sure yarns around the stores are priced.

Dad had a great day. We found out last night that he has his license back.

I’ve been knitting since dinner with the hope of getting Framed Your Face finished for Saturday. I’m not going to make it but I’ll have a lot knit so you can see how great the pattern looks and how nice the yarns are.
