Cards

Sally Melville has a new pattern called Celebrate Summer that you can purchase on Ravelry.

A version of this sweater initially appeared in my book, The Knit Stitch, and was called Sally’s Favourite Summer Sweater. The version written here has the following changes to the original:
• a narrower, shaped shoulder
• narrower sleeves, which are picked up and knit down (rather than knit up and seamed)
• a more finished neckline (In the book, we had not yet covered “pick up and knit,” so I had to finish the neck with short rows and live stitches. What is offered here is a much-preferred method.)

(If you own this book and would only like the changes that were made, email me (sallyjmelville@gmail.com), and I will send them to you.)

While I love the darker version, the stitch pattern (and difference between the sheer and opaque) are more visible in a lighter yarn.

A light DK or sport weight cotton (or cotton blend) is recommended.

Beth had a problem at work today. “Typing is difficult. Need much longer arms”.

Beth and dad play cards every night. There usually isn’t time for him and I to play. I go in the morning and he is busy with speech and occupational therapy. He doesn’t have therapy on Sunday so him and I played yesterday morning. He is improving in most areas. He is talking better and reads the newspaper every day. Numbers (and cards) are no problem. He remembers Beth’s cell number (he never knew mine) and he calls her every day. Sometimes he calls on our house number. We know that is from memory because he is the only one who uses that number. The hospital doesn’t have it so a nurse isn’t dialing for him. He still mixes up words and sometimes you can see that he wants to say something but can’t get it out. We’re being patient with it.

I saw dad this morning then went to the store to ship boxes. After a few more errands I came home to start spring cleaning. My knitting area was growing out of control. There was yarn and needles everywhere. I have things in order except for the needles. They are in a bag for now but at least they’re all together. Then I started on my bedroom. 😢. I wish I was neat like Lynn.
