Gnomes

A few of my suppliers have been sending out emails about Snow Matter What. What??? This is the December Mystery Gnome event from Imagined Landscapes - Sarah Schira. Over the past year I’ve seen gnomes on Ravelry but I didn’t pay attention. Gnomes are a big thing.

Countdown the days of December with the folks of the Grimblewoods! You’ll get wee knitting updates to knit a brand new gnome pattern, stories, recipes, and surprises!

Use code “Snow25” to get 25% off the pattern! P.S. Imagined Landscape newsletter subscribers are getting a code for 33% off! Subscribe and get the code here.

It’s almost Longest Gnight but there hasn’t been a single snowflake fluttering in the sky. The Grimblewoods are a dreary, frozen brown landscape, and the gnomes are getting worried. Without snow in the darkest days, the light doesn’t reflect very well and houses and hearts seem darker this year. The littlest gnomes are especially anxious – how will the Gnome of the Gnorth light lanterns on Longest Gnight if his sleigh can’t slide speedily through the snow?

Key Dates
Dec 1-24: daily updates, all gnome knitting clues released by Dec 24
Dec 24: entry form (for Instagram entries) and finished gnome thread (for Ravelry entries) open
Dec 25-31: more updates sent, dates are a surprise
Jan 1: last day to enter for a grand prize
Jan 5: prizes announced, clues integrated into a single pattern

Size
I like to keep the December mystery gnome simple and achievable! Mr. Gnightley is on the smaller side, more of a size to fit in with Gnova from Gnome-made Gifts, or Gnellie from Oh, Gnome, You Didn’t - around 5-7” / 13-18 cm.

Here is a link to the pattern on Ravelry.

Emma’s is offering kits but they won’t make it in time so I’m going to put together some combinations. You can also go through your stash of fingering weight yarns. You need four colours for the gnome and approximately 20 grams of each colour.

Here are a few gnome patterns from Imagined Landscapes so you can see how cute Sarah’s gnomes are.
These are Never Not Gnoming (pattern purchased on Ravelry)
These are Gnome-Made Gifts which was the MKAL last December. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

I’m home and I had a bag of yarn packed to take pictures of combinations for Snow Matter What. That bag is sitting on the cash desk. I used pictures from Emma’s website to show some suggestions - these are all Practically Perfect Smalls.

You can mix and match any of these and I think you’ll have a great gnome. I could keep making combinations (and I kind of want to) but it’s almost 8pm and time to stop working for the night.

If you decide you want to make a gnome and the colour you choose is out of stock there will be another order coming at the end of the month.
