Fades and Snow

This is Stephen West’s Marled Fade Triangle (pattern purchased on Ravelry). It is the perfect project for the new Hedgehog Fade Packs.

All the irresistible speckled yarns out there are begging to become faded gradients. This top-down triangular shawl uses five speckled colors fading from light to dark. Hold two strands of yarn together, drop one color, and introduce the next color for a gradual marled blend. Diagonal ribbing decorates the fabric and makes the splashy speckles pop. The border fades into the darkest colors with voluptuous brioche ribbing. This expansive shawl is surprisingly quick to knit with the thicker gauge producing a squishy textured fabric.

The Big Marl is a free pattern from Hedgehog Fibres.

The big marl is a squishy pile of goodness that will keep you warm all winter long. Easily customisable for any size and combination of yarns. Why not try my rainbow technique for picking colours - use all of colours of the rainbow but eliminate at least one. In the example shown I used (almost) no green but all other colours were fair game!

Finished Size:
Approx. 120cm by 120cm.

Needle:
10mm circular needle, preferably with a long cable.

Gauge:
9 stitches and 18 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch.

Yarn:
Any! This blanket used a mix of Hedgehog Fibres Aran, Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK, Hedgehog Fibres Sock, Hedgehog Fibres Sock Minis, Hedgehog Fibres Twist Sock and Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles. Lace weight yarns can easily be added.

You can use the Fade Pack and add in yarns from your stash.

You can add two colours for Andrea Mowry’s Find Your Fade. We have over 125 colours of Hedgehog Sock so I’m pretty sure we can find something that works.

Andrea’s So Faded

You will need one more skein for What the Fade?!

I did a search on Ravelry for Fades and here they are. There are 12 pages of great patterns.

It looks like more snow tomorrow. YUCK!! I will decide in the morning if I head to the store. It will depend on when the snow starts. If I do go in I’m pretty sure I will be leaving early. The roads in my survey are bare but we are down to one lane. I’m not sure what is going to happen if we have the 15-20cm of snow they say we might get.
