Traveler Shell

Here is Andrea Mowry’s latest pattern. You can purchase the pattern for The Traveler Shell on Ravelry.

I wanted an easy-to-slip-on layer while traveling that was similar to the Traveler Hoodie, but easier to take on and off in small, confined spaces (hello planes). This is a drop shoulder, open cardi with big pockets.

This cardigan is worked from the bottom up, seamlessly, except for the underarms. The shoulders are finished with an exposed seam using the 3 needle bind off. The collar & cuffs are picked up and knitted out from the body. The pockets are knit separately and sewn on once the cardigan is finished.

Andrea suggests a lace weight wool with a lace weight mohair. We don’t have a lace weight wool but when looking at projects on Ravelry a few people used a fingering wool with a laceweight mohair. One knitter used a fingering weight that is the same as Le Petit Lambswool with mohair. I think you could make the cardigan in just a fingering weight with no mohair if you’d like.

We’re out of chocolate and the lights are off. Dad and Beth had fun greeting all the kids. I was in the house with the dogs. Unfortunately there wasn’t any knitting because the dogs wanted in and out. In and out. They were well behaved and there wasn’t much barking so it’s okay. Now a bit of knitting while we watch hockey, baseball and Big Brother.

Same but Different

Casapinka has a beautiful new shawl pattern.

Casapinka used Hedgehog Merino DK for her sample. We don’t have a lot of solids but here are a few suggestions of other yarns that will give you the tension.

-Tosh DK

-Cascade 220 Superwash Merino will give you a soft drapey shawl

-Biches & Buches Le Lambswool will give you a crisp shawl. You might want to go up to a 5mm needle for a bit more drape.

I was here early packing boxes. Too early because my boxes are packed and there is no sign of Mr. UPS. While I’m waiting I put together some combinations for Same But Different. We used one ball of Rowan Felted Tweed (177) with one skein of Dream State (Neveruary).

You can purchase the pattern for Same But Different on Ravelry.

The rain stopped long enough for me to go outside and get pictures. Kits are available online. There are 58 colours of Felted Tweed and 39 colours of Dream State. I could be putting together combinations from now until Christmas but that isn’t an option. If you are interested in a different colourway please let me know the Dream State you like and I will match it with Felted Tweed for you.
Dad and Beth are ready for tomorrow night. Dad wanted to light the candles to make sure everything looked good. Dad bought a weird shaped pumpkin that Beth put eyes on. He is on the right above - I’ll try and get a picture in the light tomorrow. He looks like some sort of muppet character.
Mr. UPS did arrive and the boxes went out. There are going to be lots of happy fibre folks tomorrow or Wednesday when the big brown truck pulls up.

Happy Sunday Fibre Friends

Yesterday was pumpkin carving day. Beth found all the tools and stencils and they were busy all morning.
They were very proud of themselves.
This is Lucky Break from Lisa K. Ross (Paper Daisy Creations). I really like this shawl. The pattern can be purchased on Ravelry.
Sometimes the knitting I crave most is simple garter stitch, meditatively worked back and forth. When combined with a handful of ‘thinking’ rows and some colorful minis, the results can be incredible! Only 12 pairs of bind-off/cast-on rows are used to create this eye-catching accessory that drapes beautifully and adds flair to any outfit. Choose your palette and watch it fly off the needles. You may even find yourself making another Lucky Break!

The shawl is knit with 2 skeins of Emma’s Practically Perfect Sock and 6 Practically Perfect Smalls. This shawl came to mind because we have new Theme Packs coming from Emma’s on Wednesday. These should go online Monday or Tuesday. If you don’t want to use a Theme Pack we have many, many colours of Practically Perfect Smalls in stock.

Today was a relaxing day watching football. There was a bit of knitting too. Tomorrow is going to be busy packing orders and unpacking yarn from Madelinetosh. The Great Canadian Baking Show is on and it’s time to relax some more.

New Kits

The Killer Queen Cowl has been a hit. We are temporarily sold out of the main colour that I used but it should be coming soon - fingers crossed next week.

I’ve emailed Diana and asked her to knit us another sample in different colours.

Here are a few new combinations that went on the website last night. Pearl Ten and Aniversario
Lettuce and Sabiduria

Here is the Rios wall so far.

It was a rocky start to the day. We couldn’t accept debit or credit cards. Thank you to everyone for their patience while this was going on.

Then my day went crazy making kits for Autumn Alpine. Some are online now and more are being added while I watch the baseball game. We are using Biches & Buches Le Petit Lambswool with Dyed in the Wool.

These are the kits that are still to come. The pictures aren’t great but I had to do them inside. It was raining for a while and when the rain stopped the store was full.

Before I left for the day I pulled mail orders to box up tomorrow. A customer bought Rios and while I was picking the yarn I came up with another Killer Queen Cowl combination. This will be on the website later tonight or tomorrow.

This is Whole Grain and Cielo Y Tierra.

The game has started and I’m going back to kits.

Fall/Winter Version of Alpine Bloom

Autumn Alpine came out this morning. I’ve asked Deidre if she would make the sweater for a store sample. Now to pick the colours.

Please enjoy an introductory discount of 15% off this design using code FALLFLOWER, valid through 10/31/23. Thank you

Please take care when entering discount code, as refunds cannot be given. Code cannot be combined with other offers.

Autumn Alpine is a midweight sweater knit from the top down featuring an interesting ribbing detail at the neckline, hem and sleeve cuffs and a Scandinavian-inspired floral colorwork yoke. Short rows are worked at the back neck for an improved fit. Optional short rows are also worked at the back hem to lower the back of the sweater a bit. Instructions are given for lengthening the body and sleeves as desired.

This is the fall/winter version of my Alpine Bloom tee.

Here is the link to purchase the pattern on Ravelry - I already have my copy.

I’ve decided on the yarn for the sweater. The main yarn is going to be Le Petit Lambswool. It is a bit thinner than sport but I’m confident that the yarn will work. The colourwork will be Dyed in the Wool. I’ll get pictures tomorrow before Deidre picks up the yarn.

We’re watching football and hockey while we wait for Big Brother. I am working on my Tessellated Vest tonight. It was sitting on the table beside me calling my name.
