New Yarn and Needles

Thea Colman has a new pattern. Meet Western Rose. You can purchase the pattern Ravelry.

Western Rose is my first real foray into the world of mosaic knitting and I am hooked!

A deep panel of flowers in beautiful shifting color really stands out against the sophisticated navy blue heather of the stockinette body on this one. Some ridge detail at hem and cuffs adds a tiny bit of texture - and a raglan yoke, paired with a shallow folded collar gives it an updated and easy-to- wear shape.

A stockinette body means I have included lots of options for modifying the sweater to fit your body and your wardrobe, so the pattern has instructions for alternate necklines (see the test knits!), as well as how to alter width or length as needed. And I cannot WAIT to see your color combos!

Western Rose is knit from the bottom up. Sleeves are joined at yoke and then both raglan shaping and short rows are added before working the final collar.

It’s actually a very simple knit, and seemed to fly off the needles once I cast on.

What a gorgeous sweater.

I made up some kits today for the sweater. For these I combined Lore from The Fibre Co and Dream State.
Processed in a mill in England’s historical textile region of West Yorkshire, Lore is made of 100% lambswool from the Romney sheep breed also referred to locally as Kent lamb. It is an honest woolen spun DK weight yarn that blooms into a beautiful knitted fabric after washing.  Garments made from Lore will wear well and are perfect for everyday and special adventures alike.

This colourway is very close to Thea’s sweater.

There will be brand new colours of Lore coming in about a week.

The new Addi Click Interchangeable Rocket Squared sets arrived today.
The addiClick interchangeable needle set is the only complete system which provides a patented click-in tip that will never come unscrewed while knitting. No tools are required to make a quick tip change; simply insert the cord deep into the tip, twist and release. Thanks to the Click’s revolutionary locking mechanism, the tips will remain secure until you choose to change them.

The bright blue case is the Standard Set.

The addiClick Rocket2 STANDARD set includes:

  • 8 sizes of addiClick Rocket2 STANDARD tips (approx. US 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11)
  • 1 each 24", 32", and 40" pliable, blue nylon cords with lifeline eyelets
  • Click Connector, which helps to either store stitches or combine cords
  • addiGrip to make changing tips even easier

The addiClick Rocket2 SHORT set includes:
  • 8 sizes of addiClick Rocket2 SHORT tips (approx. US 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11)
  • 1 each 16", 20", 24", 32", and 40" pliable, blue nylon cords with lifeline eyelets
  • Click Connector, which helps to either store stitches or combine cords
  • addiGrip to make changing tips even easier

UPS did not deliver our box from Old Soul today. I have been assured that it is coming tomorrow morning. That assurance came at 4pm. Then at 5:30 it has changed and is now being held. 👿

The new colours of Felted Tweed are gorgeous. They will be on the website tomorrow.

I have spent enough time in front of the computer. It’s time to knit.

Pintada

Degraw is knit with 4 skeins of Malabrigo Rasta - 2 skeins each of 2 colours. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

Beautifully bulky this asymmetrical shawl features a chevron patterning with two perfectly paired colors of Rasta.

There will be 7 new colours of Malabrigo Rasta coming on Thursday.

Launching this fall, Pintada is a new technique developed after considerable research and experimentation, attributed to the culmination of several dyeing methods.

I’ve wanted to knit this shawl for a while and now I have an excuse. When the new Rasta colours arrive I will put together combinations.

New pompoms will be available online this week. These are faux fur with metal snaps. I will match them up with the Rasta as well.

Old Soul should be coming tomorrow morning. I know I am going to want another Birds of a Feather. Picking the colour is going to be hard.

Mr. Canpar brought in a box of needles today including a restock of Karbonz.

We have fixed circulars and interchangeable sets.

Ms. UPS did not deliver our Rowan or Biches & Buches today. There was a mix up at the depot so they are coming tomorrow. That means 7 big boxes. I will have some work tomorrow afternoon adding the new Rowan to the website. We can start selling it (and the new books) on Thursday.

Halfway

This is the halfway point of the main colourwork chart. (Blogger is acting up tonight and won’t let me justify my text to the left. Sorry - I’m too tired to start again.)

It’s good to be home. We had a great time at the cottage but there is nothing better than sleeping in your own bed or knitting in your comfortable chair. Beth and Boscoe drove home with me so that Lucy could have the whole back seat of the truck to herself and stretch out. Boscoe infringes on her space. I dropped Beth off at home and then headed to the store to water the plants. Four hours later I left the store. There are many boxes ready for Mr. Canada Post

High Lonesome is Caitlin Hunter’s latest design. You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

High Lonesome is a classic unisex sweater with a timeless colorwork yoke design. This pattern is approachable for knitters of all levels. Just one color of Spincycle’s Dream State is used for the colorwork pattern, paired with The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers’ beautifully rustic Recollect sport weight wool (though you can use any yarn you like that gives you the proper gauge)! Combining worsted weight for the colorwork with a lighter sport weight for the body gives the pattern just a little extra “oomph” in the colorwork. Top-down design means you can try this sweater on as you go, so you can alter the length as needed for your perfect fit.

I think I have about 1/2 hour in me and then it’s time for bed. Tomorrow is a big day. We should see many boxes.

Colour

I made it to the colourwork this morning. Now the knitting is fun - I love two coloured knitting. I would have been further but there was a nap this afternoon. It was overcast and a cooler today. The perfect day for a nap.
It’s tiring being at the cottage.

We leave tomorrow morning. It’s been a fun weekend of doing nothing.

And I’m going to pay for it when I get home. Ms. UPS is bringing a lot of boxes on Tuesday. A shipment from Biches & Buches including a brand new colour of Le Petit Lambswool.

The new colours of Felted Tweed are coming as well.

Then on Wednesday Ms. UPS should be bringing our yarn from Old Soul Fiber Co. I can’t wait to see the yarn.

Now it’s time to knit before dinner. Then we have to finish our game of dominos.

At the Cottage

It is beautiful up north. The cottage is on Paint Lake.

My drive was uneventful and I arrived around noon. I had a nap and then rested. Cottage life. The cottage is a cottage. Rustic and comfortable. Lots of windows overlooking the lake, lots of paneling. Not a house on the lake. It reminds me of my grandfather’s cottage. Very inviting. Very cozy. Clean.

The dogs are loving it here. Who wouldn’t like to play in the water all day long? Unfortunately Lucy had too much fun. We think she tore her ACL on Monday afternoon after they got here. She let out a cry and now she is limping like before surgery. Beth talked to the clinic that did her surgery and Lucy sees the vet on Wednesday. They sent a prescription for medication to a vet clinic in Huntsville so she is comfortable. She is still eating and her tail wags like crazy. She loves to lie on the dock. I was upset on Monday but now that I’ve seen her I know she’s okay.

There was a bit of knitting last night while we were playing dominoes.

Breakfast is finished and the kitchen is clean so now it’s time to knit by the lake.
